A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.
The next destination is Siem Reap, Cambodia. The remaining five teams have been in an alliance throughout the race, but now they achieved their goal as the final five. However, Riley & Maddison, Will & James, and Hung & Chee still plan to work together as a three-team alliance. Their next target for elimination is DeAngelo & Gary. The football players are curious how the race will play out now that the alliance made it to the final five together. Eswar & Aparna note that they still haven’t won a leg unlike the other teams. They say it’s everyone for themselves, and they are willing to use a U-Turn to get ahead.
The teams land in Cambodia. They must find a Travelocity Gnome at a market for their next clue. After they help a driver assemble a tuk-tuk, they must proceed to a pier and board a boat to Chong Kneas Village. Will & James and Riley & Maddison take the lead while Eswar & Aparna are behind in last place. However, Riley & Maddison fall behind as the motor of their boat suddenly fails. They watch as Will & James and Hung & Chee pass them by, but their motor starts working again before DeAngelo & Gary or Eswar & Aparna can pass them too. Hung & Chee arrive at the village first. They deliver a basket of goods and receive their next clue.
Hung & Chee learn they have a Detour to complete next: Fish or Farm. Fish requires teams to pull in over 3,000 feet of net and gather 15 kilograms of fish. Farm requires teams to mix soils and plant local produce. Hung & Chee initially choose Fish, but they end up going to the nearby Farm Detour instead. The other teams deliver their goods too. Will & James choose Farm, but Riley & Maddison, DeAngelo & Gary, and Eswar & Aparna choose Fish.
Riley & Maddison are the first to complete the Detour, but DeAngelo & Gary are right behind them. Both teams make their way to the U-Turn Board, and DeAngelo & Gary manage to get ahead of Riley & Maddison. DeAngelo & Gary use the U-Turn against Eswar & Aparna. Afterwards, Riley & Maddison decide to burn the U-Turn by using it against DeAngelo & Gary. Since DeAngelo & Gary are already ahead of Riley & Maddison, it has no effect. They must now make their way to Khmer Floor Handicraft and find their next clue. The other teams complete their Detour tasks, and they make their way to the U-Turn board. Even though Will & James are unaffected by the U-Turn, they still are disgruntled that DeAngelo & Gary managed to get to the U-Turn Board first. Eswar & Aparna, however, are understandably frustrated. They must make their way to the Farm Detour.
DeAngelo & Gary and Riley & Maddison arrive at the handicraft, and they learn there is a Roadblock to complete. One team member must create an ornate tile. Afterwards, they must use the tile as part of a slide puzzle. After they solve the puzzle, they will receive their next clue. DeAngelo and Riley get started on the Roadblock. They both initially struggle making a tile piece, and neither of them figured it out by the time Hung & Chee and Will & James arrive. Meanwhile, Eswar & Aparna complete the Farm Detour.
Riley and Will are the first to complete the Roadblock, and they can now proceed to the Pit Stop: Angkor Thom. They leave, and Riley & Maddison are the first to greet Phil. Riley & Maddison are Team #1! They win a trip to Norway. Will & James arrive shortly afterwards as Team #2. James is emotional since he claims Cambodia is a country he has always wanted to visit.
Eswar & Aparna arrive at the Roadblock. As Eswar gets started on the task, Aparna is delighted to see DeAngelo is struggling with the Roadblock. He’s been working on the task for two hours now, and Aparna says it’s karma. DeAngelo says she has bad sportsmanship since the U-Turn is simply part of the game. Gary is annoyed since DeAngelo hasn’t paid attention to the demonstration on how to build the tile. Since DeAngelo doesn’t know how to create the tile correctly, he keeps messing up. However, he finally goes back to watch, and he notices he forgot to put a layer of grease as one of the first steps. After he realizes this, Chee completes the Roadblock. He and Hung proceed to the Pit Stop as DeAngelo and Eswar fight for survival.
Hung & Chee are officially Team #3 as DeAngelo finally completes the Roadblock. However, Eswar completes it moments later. It’s a close race for fourth place (especially after DeAngelo & Gary get stuck in traffic), but which team remains in the race? DeAngelo & Gary are the fourth team to greet Phil at the Pit Stop. Later, Eswar & Aparna are the last team to greet Phil. He gives them the bad news. Eswar & Aparna have been eliminated from the race. Eswar says he’s glad he did the race with his sister. Aparna says she’s happy to have spent this time with Eswar too, and she believes their parents will be proud that they fought until the very end.
