The Amazing Race 35 Recap – Week 3 Live Blog and Results

A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

The episode begins with Jocelyn & Victor reading their next clue. They must fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and travel to the city of Can Tho to find their next clue. They must first book flights ahead of time. Jocelyn & Victor feel good about winning two legs in a row. Rob & Corey are the second team to depart. They say the first two legs have been a blast. Jocelyn & Victor and Rob & Corey arrive at the travel agency and book tickets for a 1:45 flight. They should arrive in Vietnam at 3:25. Greg & John are the third team to arrive at the travel agency, and they request tickets for the same flight.

Morgan & Lena book tickets for 1:45 too. They also have the Express Pass, which can only be used until the fourth leg of the race. Todd & Ashlie get tickets for a flight at 7:55. This is six hours later than the first flight. Steve & Anna Leigh get tickets on this later flight too. Joe & Ian book flights for a 1:50 flight. Their travel agent managed to find earlier tickets than the 7:55 flight. Liam & Yeremi and Andrea & Malaina book tickets for the 7:55 flight too, but Joel & Garrett also get tickets on the 1:50 flight. Robbin & Chelsea get the 7:55 flight.

The contestants arrive in Can Tho

At the airport, Todd & Ashlie and Steve & Anna Leigh are unhappy to learn Joe & Ian and Joel & Garrett got an earlier flight than them. Also, the teams on the 1:45 flight are delayed until 3:00, allowing Joe & Ian and Joel & Garrett to take the lead. Joe & Ian and Joel & Garrett land at the airport in Ho Chi Minh City and hop into taxis to a bus station. Once there, they must take a bus to the city of Can Tho. The second flight lands, and they are right behind them as they make their way to the bus station.

Joe & Ian arrive at Can Tho first. They must claim a time for tomorrow morning’s task. The times are separated by fifteen minutes. The first time is 5:45 and the latest time is 6:15, so the teams will be on somewhat equal footing. As the teams arrive, Morgan & Lena contemplate using the Express Pass tomorrow to jump ahead the others.

The next morning, the teams learn they must travel on sampans on the Cai Rang Floating Market. They must deliver fruit to vendors before they receive their next clue. Rob & Corey, Steve & Anna Leigh, Joel & Garrett, and Joe & Ian were the first teams to get started on the task. Morgan & Lena decide to use the Express Pass to skip the task. They leave the task around the same time Joel & Garrett complete it themselves. The rest of the teams are on sampans working on delivering their fruit too.

Paper or plastic?

Joel & Garrett get their next clue. They learn they have a Detour to complete: Paper or Plastic. Paper requires teams to create 12 sheets of edible rice paper. Plastic requires teams to cut, apply, and heat vinyl onto a motorbike panel. Joel & Garrett choose Paper. Morgan & Lena choose Plastic. Steve & Anna Leigh complete the fruit delivery task and choose Paper. All three of these teams get started on their Detour tasks while the others are still finishing up their fruit deliveries.

Rob & Corey are currently in third place and choose Paper. Joel & Garrett are doing well with the rice paper, but Steve & Anna Leigh are struggling. After Rob & Corey arrive, Anna Leigh wonders if they should switch Detours. Meanwhile, Morgan & Lena are struggling with the Plastic Detour too. The rest of the teams are now done with the fruit delivery task. Todd & Ashlie choose Paper. Joe & Ian and Liam & Yeremi choose Plastic.

Racing to the pit stop

Jocelyn & Victor, Greg & John, Robbin & Chelsea, and Andrea & Malaina are behind the other teams. They all choose Paper. Meanwhile, Steve & Anna Leigh manage to get ahead of Joel & Garrett and complete the Paper Detour first. They can now race to the Pit Stop: Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery. Soon after they leave, Joel & Garrett complete the Detour too. It’ll be a close race for first place. Before we see who arrives at the Pit Stop first, we see the teams at the back of the pack arrive at the Paper Detour. There are only five ovens available, and Andrea & Malaina are the last team to arrive at the Detour. There are no free ovens, so they must wait for another team to leave or make their way to the Plastic Detour.

Steve & Anna Leigh are the first team to greet Phil at the Pit Stop.

Steve & Anna Leigh are the first team to greet Phil at the Pit Stop. However, the leg is not over yet. Phil gives them their next clue and tells them to keep racing. He gives the same news to Joel & Garrett. Meanwhile, Morgan & Lena and Joe & Ian are struggling with the Plastic Detour.

Rob & Corey complete the Paper Detour. After they leave, Andrea & Malaina are able to take over their station. The other teams are struggling with the Paper Detour too. As they keep working, Rob & Corey arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #3. Phil lets them know the leg is not over and they must keep racing.

Todd & Ashlie are the next team to complete the Paper Detour. Jocelyn & Victor are butting heads as they struggle to make one sheet of rice paper. Victor wonders if they should switch Detours. Meanwhile, Morgan & Lena finally complete the Plastic Detour. They can now make their way to Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery.

Keep racing

Robbin & Chelsea complete the Paper Detour as Todd & Ashlie greet Phil at the mat. Andrea & Malaina also manage to jump ahead of the other teams. They are currently in seventh place as they depart the Paper Detour. Meanwhile, Joe & Ian finally complete the Plastic Detour.

Robbin & Chelsea are the fifth team to greet Phil at the mat, and they are followed by Morgan & Lena and Joe & Ian. Greg & John complete the Paper Detour, leaving Jocelyn & Victor as the last team at that Detour. They are worried they’re in last place and likely to be eliminated. They finally complete the Detour, but they’re not in last place. Liam & Yeremi are still at the Plastic Detour, but they finally complete their task too. Which team will greet Phil last?

Greg & John and Andrea & Malaina arrive at the mat together and get their next clues. Jocelyn & Victor arrive afterwards. They get their next clue as Liam & Yeremi are running to the mat behind them. They aren’t eliminated. Phil gives them their next clue and tells them to keep racing.
