A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.
Rod & Leticia, Ricky & Cesar, and Derek & Shelisa are the first teams to begin the leg. Their next destination is Guatapé, Colombia. The teams have already traveled to Guatapé by the start of the episode. They must climb over 700 stairs to the top of El Peñón de Guatapé to find their next clue. Ricky & Cesar reach the top first.
They open their next clue and learn they have a Detour next. They have to choose between Bandeja Paisa or Yipao. In Bandeja Paisa, teams have to prepare three plates of bandeja paisa. In Yipao, teams have to load a Jeep with furniture. The first three teams all choose the cooking task. Amber & Vinny, Juan & Shane, and Angie & Danny are in Group 2. They also choose Bandeja Paisa. They must get into a water taxi to get their Detour location. Kishori & Karishma, Anthony & Bailey, Yvonne & Melissa, Michelle & Sean, and Sunny & Bizzy leave in the third group. Sunny also got a phone call from home. She learned her grandmother passed away last night. Sunny & Bizzy and Anthony & Bailey choose the Yipao Detour. Michelle & Sean choose Bandeja Paisa. Kishori & Karishma and Yvonne & Melissa also choose the cooking Detour. While aboard the water taxis, we hear from some of the teams. Shelisa is a cancer survivor, and she says being on The Amazing Race lets her represent cancer survivors as well as grandparents. Juan says it’s bittersweet being back in Colombia. He used to live there with his family before moving to the United States.
We see the teams in the front of the pack begin the Bandeja Paisa Detour. After Michelle & Sean climb back down El Peñón de Guatapé, they choose to switch to the Yipao Detour. Angie & Danny’s water taxi has maintenance issues, allowing Sunny & Bizzy and Kashori & Karishma to pass them.
Ricky & Cesar are the first to complete the Detour. They get their next clue and learn they have to proceed to El Cordero de Guatapé. After Angie & Danny and Kishori & Karishma get off their water taxis, they agree to work together to find the Bandeja Paisa Detour. Sunny & Bizzy were going to do the Yipao Detour, but they decide to switch to the cooking Detour. Kishori & Karishma don’t eat meat, so they’re concerned how they’re going to know how to prepare the food for the Bandeja Paisa Detour. They ask Derek & Shelisa for help identifying the different food.
Anthony & Bailey and Michelle & Sean finally arrive at the Yipao Detour. They see the example Jeep, and they get started loading their Jeeps. Both teams say the task looks nearly impossible. Back at the cooking Detour, Rod & Leticia present their food. The food is disorganized, so they have to redo their plating. Derek & Shelisa, however, pass their first presentation. They get their clue and can proceed to El Cordero de Guatapé.
Anthony & Bailey decide to switch Detours. Michelle & Sean choose to switch to the Bandeja Paisa Detour too. They soon join the other teams there. After they arrive, Rod & Leticia finish the cooking task and are currently in third place. Anthony & Bailey feel overwhelmed by the cooking task, and they contemplate switching Detours again. Juan & Shane complete the Detour. After they leave, Anthony & Bailey decide to go back to the Yipao Detour. Sunny & Bizzy complete the Detour as Anthony & Bailey finally get started on the Yipao Detour.
Ricky & Cesar learn they have a Roadblock to complete. One team member must harvest and process one kilogram of Arabica beans. Cesar chooses to do the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Kishori & Karishma present their food. They must cook their plantains more. Amber & Vinny, however, pass the presentation. Yvonne & Melissa also complete the Detour afterwards. Back at the Yipao Detour, Anthony & Bailey are once again contemplating switching and going back to the Bandeja Paisa Detour. They say their brains are fried and the task is too overwhelming. Although they feel embarrassed, they go back to the cooking Detour.
Kishori & Karishma complete the Detour next. So do Angie & Danny. Anthony & Bailey return to the cooking Detour with only Michelle & Sean still there. Meanwhile, Cesar completes the Roadblock. He and Ricky can proceed to the Pit Stop: Casa Loma Finca Cafetera. After they leave, Derek & Shelisa arrive. Shelisa gets started on the Roadblock.
Shane is the next to start the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Ricky & Cesar arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil gives them the good news. Ricky & Cesar are Team #1! They won Expedia OneKeyCash for a trip to Capetown, South Africa. More teams arrive at the Roadblock. Leticia, Sunny, Vinny, Melissa, and Kishori do the Roadblock.
Michelle & Sean complete the Detour right when Angie & Danny arrive at the Roadblock. Angie does the Roadblock. As she gets started, Vinny manages to quickly complete the Roadblock. Amber & Vinny later greet Phil as Team #2. Meanwhile, Anthony & Bailey complete the Detour.
More teams finish the Roadblock. Eventually, only Angie & Danny are there. Danny lets her know how many teams have left, but Angie says that’s not helpful. He’s just putting pressure on her. Michelle & Sean and Anthony & Bailey have yet to arrive at the Roadblock.
Teams are searching for Phil at the Pit Stop, but they can’t find him. Derek & Shelisa eventually find Phil, and they learn they are Team #3. More teams spot him, and they all race to the Pit Stop. Juan & Shane are Team #4 and Rod & Leticia are Team #5. Yvonne & Melissa are Team #6. Sunny & Bizzy are Team #7. Kishori & Karishma are Team #8. These six teams are together at the mat at the same time.
Michelle & Sean find the location of the Roadblock. They try to make their way down the hill, but it’s very high and slippery. Sean refuses to go down the hill, saying it’s too high. Despite Michelle’s pleading, Sean does not want to make his way down the hill. Anthony & Bailey have yet to arrive, and Angie is still slowly working on picking the beans.
Sean finally goes down the steps with Michelle’s encouragement. They reach the Roadblock, and Michelle gets started on the task. Shortly afterwards, Angie completes the Roadblock. As they leave, Anthony & Bailey arrive. Anthony chooses to do the Roadblock. Angie & Danny greet Phil as Team #9.
Michelle completes the Roadblock. So does Anthony. Both teams make their way to the Pit Stop. The edit makes it seem like it’s a close race, but Michelle & Sean are likely farther ahead. And sure enough, Michelle & Sean greet Phil as Team #10. Anthony & Bailey show up later. Phil gives them the bad news. Anthony & Bailey have been eliminated from the race. They say they enjoyed their time with each other, especially since they don’t get as much one-on-one time anymore.
