The Amazing Race 36 Week 6 Recap and Live Blog – Teams embark on mega leg in Argentina

Tonight is a Mega Leg. That means there will be two Detours and two Roadblocks that teams must complete. Tonight teams will be racing in Córdoba, Argentina. Their first clue tells them to proceed to Plaza del Bicentenario.

Ricky & Cesar and Juan & Shane are the first to find their clue. They learn they have a Detour to complete: Bicicleta or Boleadora. The former requires teams to use a stationary bicycle to crush and recycle plastic bottles. The latter requires teams to throw a bola and wrap it around a moving target. They only get ten attempts before they have to start over. Ricky & Cesar and Juan & Shane choose Boleadora. Angie & Danny, Amber & Vinny, and Rod & Leticia depart next and they choose the same Detour.

The next group departs. Derek & Shelia and Sunny & Bizzy get lost driving to Plaza del Bicentenario. Yvonne & Melissa find it without any issues and they choose the same Detour as the other teams. Ricky & Cesar and Juan & Shane are already at the Detour when Angie & Danny, Amber & Vinny, and Rod & Leticia arrive. After seeing it’s a physical task, Danny wants them to switch Detours. After Angie and Danny leave, Rod & Leticia and Amber & Vinny choose to follow them.

Juan & Shane are the first team to complete the Detour. They get their next clue and learn they must proceed to Circuito Lobo Race. Cesar lands a target, but Ricky is struggling. Meanwhile, Angie & Danny, Rod & Leticia, and Amber & Vinny begin working on the Bicicleta Detour.

Teams form an alliance

Derek & Shelisa and Sunny & Bizzy find the plaza. Derek & Shelisa choose the Boleadora Detour while Sunny & Bizzy choose the Bicicleta Detour. Meanwhile, Ricky finally lands a target. After he and Cesar leave, Yvonne & Melissa arrive and begin the Detour.

Rod & Leticia complete the Bicicleta Detour first. Angie & Danny and Amber & Vinny complete it soon afterwards. These three teams plan to continue working together throughout this Mega Leg. Meanwhile, Derek & Shelisa and Yvonne & Melissa are still working on the Boleadora Detour. Shelisa and Yvonne land their targets, but Derek and Melissa are struggling.

Sunny & Bizzy get started on the Bicicleta Detour as Yvonne & Melissa complete the Boleadora Detour. Derek & Shelisa are the only ones at the Boleadora Detour. Shelisa wants to switch Detours, but Derek doesn’t want to start over somewhere else. However, they do switch.

Ricky & Cesar manage to get ahead of Juan & Shane and arrive at Circuito Lobo Race first. They learn they have a Roadblock to complete. One team member must ride alongside a professional racecar driver while he drives a course. They must memorize the course and then put together a puzzle outlining the track. Ricky chooses to do the Roadblock.

While Amber & Vinny and Rod & Leticia are relying on Danny’s navigational skills to find the Roadblock, Juan & Shane arrive at the Roadblock. Juan chooses to do it. Juan feels confident in his skills as a pilot to excel in this task. While Ricky has failed after two attempt, Juan manages to complete the Roadblock on his first attempt. He and Shane can proceed to Estadio Francisco Cabasés.

Detours and roadblocks

Sunny & Bizzy have completed the Detour. After they leave, Derek & Shelisa get started on the Bicicleta Detour after switching. While Ricky is still working on the Roadblock, Angie & Danny, Amber & Vinny, and Rod & Leticia arrive. Angie, Amber, and Leticia choose to do the Roadblock.

Ricky finally completes the Roadblock after his fourth attempt. He and Cesar can leave, but the others still there are struggling with the task. Yvonne & Melissa got lost. While they’re asking for directions, Sunny & Bizzy arrive at the Roadblock. Sunny chooses to do it.

Derek & Shelisa finally complete the Bicicleta Detour. After they leave, we see Yvonne & Melissa arriving at the Roadblock. Amber, Angie, and Leticia are still struggling with the task. Amber tells Vinny the task is impossible. Angie needs to sit and rest after her second failed attempt. Angie wants to take a four-hour penalty, but Danny encourages her to keep trying.

Amber finally completes the Roadblock. She refuses to leave without Angie & Danny and Rod & Leticia. She ends up giving Angie and Leticia the answers. The alliance of three end up leaving together. However, Melissa and Sunny manage to figure out the puzzle themselves and they can depart too.

Derek & Shelisa arrive, but all the teams already left. Derek chooses to do the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Juan & Shane arrive at Estadio Francisco Cabasés. One team member must join a Bubble Soccer match and score a goal. Shane chooses to do the Roadblock. He completes it very quickly. He and Juan can now proceed to Mirador del Coniferal. After they leave, Ricky & Cesar arrive. Cesar chooses to do the Roadblock, and he completes it before another team arrives.

First team arrives at the Pit Stop

Juan & Shane find out they have another Detour to complete: Who Did It or What’s Your Beef. The former requires teams to find a fingerprint match with tools to identify a suspect. The latter requires teams to identify fourteen different cuts of beef. Juan & Shane choose What’s Your Beef.

Sunny & Bizzy and Yvonne & Melissa manage to get ahead of the alliance group. They arrive at the stadium for the Roadblock. Bizzy and Yvonne choose to do the Roadblock.

Juan & Shane are still working on the Roadblock when Ricky & Cesar arrive. While both teams work on identifying the cuts of beef at the same time, Bizzy and Yvonne complete the Bubble Soccer Detour. Eventually, Juan & Shane are the first team to complete the What’s Your Beef Detour. They can proceed to the Pit Stop: Plaza de San Martín. Shortly afterwards, Ricky & Cesar complete the Detour too.

Derek finally completes the first Roadblock while Rod, Amber, and Angie get started on the second Roadblock. Angie & Danny want to knock out as many Roadblocks for Angie as early as possible, but Angie is unhappy that it’s a physical task.

Rod completes the Bubble Soccer Detour. While he and Leticia can leave, Sunny & Bizzy and Yvonne & Melissa agree to work together on the What’s Your Beef Detour. Eventually, Amber and Angie complete the Roadblock.

Juan & Shane arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil gives them the good news. Juan & Shane are Team #1! They each win $5,000. Ricky & Cesar arrive later as Team #2.

Teams work together

While Yvonne & Melissa and Sunny & Bizzy are working on the What’s Your Beef Detour, Derek complete the Bubble Soccer Detour. Meanwhile, the alliance group of Angie & Danny, Amber & Vinny, and Rod & Leticia work together on the What’s Your Beef Detour. There is a rule that only three teams can work on this Roadblock at the same time. After Sunny & Bizzy and Yvonne & Melissa go back to butcher shop to memorize the cuts of meats again, Danny suggests their alliance all stay in the room with the three stations. This allows them to block Sunny & Bizzy and Yvonne & Melissa from reentering the room until they complete the Detour themselves.

Rod & Leticia complete the Roadblock. They give the answers to Amber & Vinny and Angie & Danny before leaving. Sunny & Bizzy and Yvonne and Melissa can attempt the task again. Yvonne & Melissa ask for help, but the alliance ignores them. Nonetheless, Yvonne & Melissa manage to help each other complete the Detour.

We next see the teams arriving at the Pit Stop. Rod & Leticia are Team #3, Amber & Vinny are Team #4, and Angie & Danny are Team #5. They are still on the mat when Yvonne & Melissa and Sunny & Bizzy join them as Team #6 and Team #7 respectively.

Derek & Shelisa were too far behind, and there was no suspense if they were going to be in last place. They do finally arrive at the Pit Stop and Phil gives them the bad news. Derek & Shelisa have been eliminated from the race. Derek takes the blame, but Shelisa says no and that they are a team. Derek is very proud of Shelisa. Shelisa wanted to represent cancer survivors and prove you can do anything you want to do. They love building memories together, and this is something they’ll never forget.
