The Amazing Race 37 Recap – Week 4 Live Blog

A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

Scott & Lori are the first to depart. They read their next clue and learn they must fly to Bali, Indonesia. One team will win the Driver’s Seat advantage in this leg. They stop at a travel agency for tickets. Carson & Jack join them there and ask for the exact same tickets. Jonathan & Ana won the Express Pass in the previous leg. They hope to use it strategically. While Jonathan & Ana get tickets, Carson & Jack discuss strategy with Scott & Lori. They think they should use an advantage against a lower placing team instead of one of the teams in the lead. They think Jonathan & Ana will be on the same page too.

Melinda & Erika ask for the same tickets as the three teams in front of them. While there, Pops & Jeff join them. They get on the same flight too. Eventually, all the other teams get on the 7:15 flight. However, Bernie & Carrigain are the only team on the 10:55 flight, putting them at a disadvantage.

The teams land in Bali. They all take taxis to their next location. The task won’t be until the morning, but they all must claim a spot. Jonathan & Ana arrive there first and take the first spot. Nick & Mike take second, Scott & Lori take third, Han & Holden take fourth, Alyssa & Josiah take fifth, Pops & Jeff take sixth, Brett & Mark take seventh, Melinda & Erika take eighth, Carson & Jack take ninth, and Bernie & Carrigain are left with the last spot. The following morning, they learn they must drive an ATV through the jungle. They will go through a cave and arrive at a waterfall where their next clue awaits.

The teams complete the task in the order they chose. Jonathan & Ana get their next clue first, telling them to proceed to Tampaksiring. The Driver’s Seat is ahead too. Jonathan & Ana arrive at the Roadblock, and Ana chooses to do it. For this Roadblock, one team member must thresh pounds of rice. How many pounds of rice will be determined by the Driver’s Seat advantage. They will have to thresh 15, 20, or 25 pounds of rice. Jonathan & Ana have reached the Driver’s Seat first, so they get to make the decision. They decide Alyssa & Josiah, Nick & Mike, Bernie & Carrigain, Pops & Jeff, and Scott & Lori will be assigned 25 pounds. Mark & Brett, Carson & Jack, and Han & Holden are given 20 pounds. Melinda & Erika and Jonathan & Ana are given 15 pounds. Despite giving themselves the least amount of pounds for the task, Jonathan & Ana decide to use their Express Pass. They get their next clue, and they learn they must proceed to Penglipuran Village.

More teams arrive at the Roadblock. Lori and Nick are the first to do the Roadblock. Lori thought she and Scott were close with Jonathan & Ana, so she is surprised and annoyed that they gave her and Scott the highest amount of weight for the task. Meanwhile, Brett & Mark’s taxi driver drove them too far away. Mark checks the taxi driver’s phone’s GPS, and he sees he drove them 40 minutes away from where they need to be.

The next group of teams arrive at the Roadblock. Alyssa, Carson, Han, and Jeff choose to do the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Jonathan & Ana are hoping they didn’t waste their Express Pass. Melinda & Erika arrive at the Roadblock next. Melinda chooses to do the Roadblock. After she gets started, Lori completes the Roadblock. Scott & Lori can now proceed to Penglipuran Village.

After Scott & Lori leave, Bernie & Carrigain arrive at the Roadblock. Carrigain chooses to do the Roadblock. Bernie says the claws are out after Jonathan & Ana gave them 25 pounds. Meanwhile, Jonathan & Ana arrive at the Detour. They can choose Penjor or Pajegan. Penjor requires teams to decorate a bamboo pole adorned with leaves, flowers, and offerings. Afterwards, they must take it to a stand for display. Pajegan requires teams to purchase offerings in the village and display it on a stand. Jonathan & Ana choose Penjor. While they’re still working, Scott & Lori join them at the Penjor Detour. Jonathan & Ana worry that Scott & Lori can pass them. If they do, then they wasted their Express Pass.

Scott says he plans to ignore Jonathan & Ana after their decision with the Driver’s Seat advantage. Meanwhile, Nick is the next person to complete the Roadblock. He’s followed by Han. After they leave, Brett & Mark finally arrive. Mark chooses to do the Roadblock. Before he gets started, Alyssa completes the Roadblock. Jack is the next person to complete the Roadblock.

More teams chose their Detours. Han & Holden and Nick & Mike choose Pajegan. They work together too. Alyssa & Josiah and Carson & Jack choose Penjor. Meanwhile, Melinda, Jeff, and Mark are the next three to complete the Roadblock. Carrigain is the only one left at the Roadblock, currently putting herself and Bernie in last place. However, she completes it soon afterwards.

Back at the Penjor Detour, Scott & Lori are bickering. Jonathan & Ana fail their first inspection, but they pass on their second attempt. After they deliver their bamboo pole, they get their next clue. They must proceed to the Pit Stop: Pura Dalem Pelapuran, Penglipuran.

More teams arrive at the Detour. Melinda & Erika, Brett & Mark, and Pops & Jeff choose Penjor. Soon afterwards, Scott & Lori and Carson & Jack pass their inspection. As they deliver their bamboo poles, Bernie & Carrigain choose the Penjor Detour. However, they don’t notice the signs telling them where to go. Meanwhile, Han & Holden and Nick & Mike still working together on the Pajegan Detour.

Jonathan & Ana arrive at the Pit Stop first. Phil gives them the good news: Jonathan & Ana are Team #1! They’ve won a trip to Croatia and Montenegro. Meanwhile, Nick & Mike and Han & Holden pass their inspections for the Pajegan Detour. They must now deliver their offerings.

Carson & Jack arrive in second place. Scott & Lori join them on the mat seconds later as Team #3. Phil asks their thoughts on the Driver’s Seat. Jack thinks Jonathan & Ana made all the wrong moves today. They will be targeted for the U-Turn without an Express Pass. Meanwhile, Bernie & Carrigain are lost trying to find the Detour. In their confessional, Carrigain is in tears as she voices her frustration to Bernie.

Bernie & Carrigain finally find the Penjor Detour. They’re relieved to see other teams there, but the rest of the teams there are finishing up. Han & Holden and Nick & Mike are finishing up their Detour as well. It’s chaotic as all these teams are racing on foot to find the Pit Stop. They can’t figure out where to go, resulting in Nick & Mike, Brett & Mark, and Alyssa & Josiah running in a circle. Bernie & Carrigain also finish the Penjor Detour.

Melinda & Erika figure out where to go, and they are the fourth team to arrive at the Pit Stop. The other teams join them on the mat one after another. Alyssa & Josiah are behind them, and they are followed by Han & Holden, Brett & Mark, Nick & Mike, and Pops & Jeff. Phil asks them their thoughts about the Driver’s Seat. They agree that Jonathan & Ana are targets, but they add Scott & Lori are threats too.

Bernie & Carrigain arrive later. They are the last team to arrive, and Phil gives them the bad news: Bernie & Carrigain have been eliminated from the race. They’re disappointed, but grateful for the experience.
