Today’s thread is brought to you by the numbers 1 and 7.
Harry Styles draws out his second solo number one album on the BB200 with “Fine Line”. The album moves 478K equivalent albums including 393K traditional albums, 83K SEAs (108.7M streams) and 3K TEAs. This is the biggest album for a pop solo male artist in 4 years. His previous album, “Harry Styles”, moved 230K in 2017, so this is a massive improvement. With just one week of sales, “Fine Line” enters the top 10 for best selling album of 2019. Note that this album did have a concert/album bundle. Interestingly, this album has the fourth-biggest Vinyl sales week in Nielsen history (which starts in 1991).
Pentatonix is 7th on the chart with their “The Best of Pentatonix Christmas” moving 56K equivalent albums. Two reality show judges/coaches are also in the BB200 top 10. Blake Shelton’s “Fully Loaded: God’s Country” opens at number 2 and Mariah Carey’s “Very Christmas” is 8th.
Mariah Carey also tops the Hot 100 for a second with with her “All I Want for Christmas is You”. For the first time in Hot 100 history, Christmas songs have the number 1 and 2 spots with Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” hitting new heights at number 2.
