The Masked Singer 10 Kickoff: Post-football special featured biggest reveal yet. Demi Lovato!
It’s a big joke on The Masked Singer when one of the judges guesses that it’s a big time A list star behind a mask. Because, let’s face it–an A-list celebrity is NOT going to don a silly costume to compete on the cheesy FOX competition reality show.
But drop by, perform and be revealed at the end of the hour? Why not! There’s no humiliating losses in a one and done situation. And on a special episode that airs after a major sporting event (FOOTBALL!) in all time zones across the country–millions of fans are tuning in!
So it was no surprise when Anonymouse appeared on The Masked Singer Season 10 Kickoff Sunday night (September 10) and blew the roof off of the joint with a rendition of Heart’s “What About Love.” And when the mask came off–there was Demi Lovato! By the end, judges Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger arrived at the correct guess. But of course Ken Jeong clung to his first guess, Lady Gaga.

The clues fit!
Anonymouse’s clues included a painting of Nick Jonas graffitied on a brick wall (Demi got her start on the Disney Channel alongside the Jonas Brothers), and Anonymous started working “young” but her big break came when she was able to showcase her voice. True. Demi eventually became a big pop star. The clues went on to reveal that Anonymouse struggled with demons that she eventually overcame. Demi almost died from a drug overdose, but other than a few slip ups, she has stayed sober. A picture of the state of Texas–Demi hales from the big state. “You all have been guessing me for the last nine seasons,” she teased. TRUE.
Some of the more ridiculous guesses other than Ken’s Lady Gaga: Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Miley Cyrus. All three have very distinct voices, as does Demi. When FOX dropped a clip of Anonymous’s performance recently, fans were quick guess Demi. And to be fair, Robin and Nicole were first to make the correct guess.
The Anonymouse is revealed as Demi Lovato, who will be releasing a new album next week!
Host Nick Cannon asked why Demi wanted to do The Masked Singer and she replied, “I wanted to do your show because it seemed so fun, and it has been so fun, and I get to sing!” Adding, “Best of both worlds.”
“You are one of the great voices and talents of any generation,” Robin gushed.
It’s a good gig for Demi, who has been in the news lately for changing managers. She recently dumped Scooter Braun and has signed on with Brandon Creed’s New World Management.
That news comes just a week ahead of the former X Factor USA judge’s next album, Revamped, which consists of re-recorded rock versions of her biggest hits from earlier in her career. Her latest album, the very rock-leaning “Holy Fvck,” peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Creed co-produced the massive Barbie soundtrack.

The special The Masked Singer hour also included unmasked duets from fan-favorite former contestants such as Rumer Willis (Lion, S1) & Michelle Williams (Butterfly S2) singing Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman) (WATCH); Nicole Scherzinger joining her Masked Singer “crushes” Victor Oladipo (Thingamajig S2) and Barry Zito (Rhino S3) to perform “Meant to Be” by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line (Watch) and Joey Fatone (Rabbit S1) & Bow Wow (Frog S3) performed a spirited ABC by the Jackson 5 (Watch)
The show also revealed the “Top 5 performances of all time”: Donny Osmond’s aka Peacock from season 1 came in at No. 5 with “The Greatest Show,” No. 4 is Leann Rimes Aka Sun singing “Cuz I Love You” by Lizzo. No. 3 is Victor Oladipo as Thingamajig singing Kacey Musgraves “Rainbow.” At No 2 is Tori Kelly as the Seahorse singing Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” and at No 1, is the season 1 winner T-Pain, Monster, singing “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith.
New costumed celebrities, new clues
In the special post-football preview, Nick also introduced several new masks including Diver “Usually I’m pretty pumped, but lately I’ve been lost in the abyss. I might be the most hated creature in the ocean right now.” His photo clue: a red cardinal. Gazelle, a female mask says “Are you ready to guess who I am? If you can remember the A list celebrity who donned this mask in season 4, that’s your first clue to my identity.” The mask is Gremlin worn by Mickey Rourke who famously unmasked himself. Royal Hen says “I’m not only known in America, but because of what I did, I’m known around the world.” And finally, Husky who states, “Don’t go barking up the wrong tree. Listen, here’s 10 million hints at who I am. Can you figure it out?”
The Masked Singer season 10 premieres on FOX Wednesday September 27 at 8 PM.
