The Masked Singer 12 Week 6: Who Was Unmasked on 60s Night?
The Masked Singer season 12 continues on to week 6 with Nick Cannon as host, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora on the panel. This week, the panel continues on to the Group B final including Goo, Blue Bell, and Wasp who will compete for a spot in the next round. TWO celebrities will be unmasked by the end of the night.
Big news. Or not! The Ding Dong Keep it On Bell is back. If the panel wants to save a singer, it can ONLY SAVE ONE singer across three group finals. Tonight COULD be the night the twist is employed!
First, the Group B finalists take the stage to sing the Beach Boys hit “Fun Fun Fun.” These group numbers are pre-recorded, probably, right?
Goo
Clues: He once had a major goal and gave him a year to succeed. He worked and it paid off. Rotary phone. Gold coins, conductor wand,
Performance: House of the Rising Sun by The Animals – Goo uses the bottom part of his register for this performance. He ramps up in the second verse leading into the final verse, where he uses his falsetto. So, a pretty wide range right there. The on set clues involve 60s inventions. Jello was invented in 1964 “Oh say can you see” means something to him, more in one way. Rita guesses Anthony Hamilton, Kevin guesses Brian McKnight. Robin guesses Leon Bridges.
Blue Bell
Clues: She loves dancing and singing. She was at the top of her field but when things stopped going her way she wondered if anything went her way. She had writers black. Motherhood inspired her.
Performance: Do You Love Me by the Contours – Blue Bell’s costume allows her to work the stage and sing at the same time. She’s got a pop voice that isn’t particularly soulful. Her cover of this classic song is a little corny. On Stage Clue: Easy Bake Oven is the clue! That’s a Vegemite sandwich–where she was born. Nick tries a bit of the Vegemite and does not like! She’s Australian. Ken guesses Rose Byrne. Rita guesses Kylie Minogue. Jenny guesses Naomi Watts.
Prediction: The internets say Blue Bell is Natalie Imbruglia who Won Masked Singer UK season 3 as Panda. She’s an Australian actress and singer.
Wasp
Clues: His mother was creative and loved costumes. She’s his hero. A treasure map. But as she got older, there were cracks. Broken wings. She passed away. “My queen bee.”
Performance: Ain’t No Way by Aretha Franklin – Wasp is clearly the standout singer of this trio. His tone is rich, in addition to a beautiful falsetto. He sings with amazing range and emotion. He’s clearly the contestant who should move on. But I suspect the panel will save one singer tonight–Goo or Blue Bell. Rita fake tears! On Stage Clue: The ATM was invented in the 60s. A 1 million bill with Robin’s photoQ “Just like this bill, I’ve also hit a million.” Rita guesses Mario. (THAT’S WHO IT IS.). Robin says he toured with Mario. He knows who it is, but he’s guessing Eric Benet. Jenny guesses Jason Derulo.
Prediction: The internets say Wasp is R&B singer, Mario.
First Unmasking
The first singer unmasking tonight is Blue Bell! Final guesses: Jenny: Naomi Watts. Robin: Isla Fisher. Ken guesses Rose Byrne. Rita guesses Kylie Minogue. And Blue Bell is Natalie Imbruglia! The internets were correct. I guess the judges don’t keep up with the UK version. She was on it! She won season 3! She threw people off speaking with an American accent. She admits that Vegemite is not her “favorite thing.”
Battle Royale
Goo and Wasp will perform the same song in their own styles. The two sing I Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye. Goo is first. He’s a decent singer, but Wasp is better. Both are soul singers and their styles aren’t divergent. Wasp performs a faster, more energetic arrangement. The PANEL and only the panel decides the winner! Before the break the judges contemplate on whether to use the bell or not. They probably will, because Group C is the last group, which leaves no suspense around the save.
The panel uses the Ding Dong Keep it On Bell. Only ONE unmasking this week!
The winner of the Battle Royale is…Wasp! He will join the Buffalos in the Quarterfinal. Final guesses: Anthony Hamilton. Ken guesses Brian McKnight. Jenny guesses Johnny Gill. Robin guesses Leon Bridges. Yep. THE PANEL SAVES GOO WHO WILL ALSO MOVE ON TO THE QUARTERFINALS.
