The Masked Singer 12 Week 2: Who Was Unmasked on Footloose night?
The Masked Singer season 12 continues on to week 2 with Nick Cannon as host, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora on the panel. The week, the mystery masks celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie Footloose.
The returning group a mystery celebrities include Buffalo, Ship, Woodpecker, and Showbird. One celebrity will be unmasked by the end of the night.
The judges are dressed in cowboy duds tonight. Robin is on stage singing a falsetto version of the Footloose theme song.
Showbird
Clues: When she got her chance in front of the lights, she was married to her career. But she missed real love. She recently connected with an old friend and he’s now her “love bird.”
Performance: Let’s Hear it for The Boy by Denise Williams – She’s comfortable singing in front of a crowd, even dressed in a crazy outfit. She’s a professional, for sure. On Stage Clue: It’s a music box like in the movie. She says, “Now that’s more my vibe. In 1994, I was part of a Hip Hop Empire. Ken guesses Yvette Nicole Brown. He knows all the clues. And he would be correct. Jenny guesses Taraji P. Henson. Rita guesses Sheila E. Jenny and Rita are stuck on the purple cupcake clue.
The star of Footloose, Kevin Bacon taped a fun message acknowledging the 40th anniversary of one of his most loved films.
Prediction: Showbird is likely Yvette Nicole Brown, Ken’s co-star on the situation comedy, Community. He knew it last week, but decided to hold off on namechecking her. Remember, their other costar, Joel McHale introduced her. It’s weird to cast somebody THAT close to one of the judges.
Ship
Clues: In highschool, she was POPULAR. An injury sidelined her for a year. So she sat at her family piano and learned to love music.
Performance: Almost Paradise by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson – She sings with a rich contralto, reminiscent of Crystal Gayle. But even with the low tones, she can match in her upper register. On Stage Clue: Six degrees of Kevin Bacon. Whoopi Goldberg, Melissa Etheridge, and Kevin. She’s connected to Melissa first. Rita guesses Sarah McLaughlin, Robin guesses Sarah McLaughlin, Ken guesses Sheryl Crow.
Woodpecker
Clues: She knows about fighting what she believes in. She was a child star in Hollywood. Everybody tried to tell her what to do.
Performance: Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler – She’s the weakest singer so far. She’s probably an actress first who can kinda sing. She stays on key, but her vocal has no range or color. She’s also shouty at times. On Stage Clue: Kevin Bacon’s shoes. Woodpecker is obsessed with shoes. Rita guesses Latisha Wright. Kevin guesses Willow Smith (again). Jenny guesses Regina King. Nick seems to know who Woodpecker is and hints that he believes she’s about Willow’s age.
Buffalos (Three masks!)
Clues: Each are rebels in their own way. They aren’t brothers. They don’t care what people think. They are rich. “We funny as hell.” Again, they mention they are rich.
Performance: Waiting for a Girl Like You by Foreigner – Are they part of a singing group? Or just friends? The trio can carry a tune. They aren’t tremendous singers, but solid. On Stage Clue: Mo-Town tractor. They are mowing lawns all around town. Ken guesses Bell Biv Devoe. Jenny guesses Boyz II Men. Robin guesses Big Time Rush. Again, Nick thinks he knows who it is and says “Everybody is close.”
Results
The audience and panel VOTE. Three celebrity acts will move on. ONE will be eliminated! The next singer of Group A to umask is…Showbird! Aw, she didn’t deserve that. Buffalo or Woodpecker should have gone home. Anyway, Ken gave it away, so time for her to go home! Final guesses Ken: Yvette Nicole Brown Robin: Yvette Nicole Brown Jenny: Taraji P. Henson Rita: Sheila E. Showbird is eliminated! Showbird is Yvette Nicole Brown. “Ken you’re right again!” says Rita. How embarrassing if he HADN’T guessed her!. Yvette says she did it for Ken.
