The Masked Singer 12 Premiere: Who Was Unmasked on “Who Can it Be” night?
The Masked Singer season 12 premiers with Nick Cannon as host, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora on the Panel.
The first five mystery celebrities include Buffalo, Ship, Woodpecker, Leaf Sheep and Showbird. One celebrity will be unmasked by the end of the night.
William Shatner, “The Knight” opens the show to deliver a special introduction to the new season. Once again, Rita Ora sings to open the new season. “Who Can It Be Now” is the theme of the night.
Buffalo(s)
Clues: Buffalo is very big, dressed like a cowboy. Each of the contestant will be introduced by an alum. Nick Lachey aka Piglet introduces Buffalo. He had a big break at a cattle call. Starred in two big sitcomes. Betty White is a big clue.
Performance: I Just Died in You Arms Tonight by Cutting Crew. He can carry a tune. Oh wait. There are TWO BUFFALOS. What are they, twins? Hold on there are THREE BUFFALOS. Maybe the cast of a sitcom? Hm. The performance is entertaining from folks obviously have experience performing on stage. OnStageClue is a gift from the ambassador: It’s a crown. Jenny guesses group B2K. Rita guesses Earth Wind and Fire. Robin guesses 98 Degrees. Musician guesses? But what about the sitcoms?
Woodpecker
Clues: Jenifer Lewis introduces Woodpecker. She’s a mogul, a friend to Beyonce and more. “Family.” She hopes to be the youngest billionaire. Bring on the singing and dancing she says.
Performance: Flowers by Miley Cyrus – She can sing, and even sounds a little like Miley. Maybe that’s why her voice sounds familiar. She sounds like a Disney star. She sounds young, and maybe was a child star? OnStageClue: It’s a “world record” Ken guesses Willow Smith. Rita guesses Cardi B. Robin guesses JoJo Siwa or Keke Palmer.
Leaf Sheep
Clues: Leaf Sheep looks half plant half animal! The ambassador is Demarcus Ware aka Koala. In his prime he made a total splash. He revived a franchise.
Performance: I Like It, I Love It by Tim McGraw – He can’t sing. At all! He sings off-key continuously. It’s a good thing his outfit is so big, he’s not expected to move in a significant way. It hard to imagine the final two contestants will be worse. So Leaf Sheep is likely going home. OnStageClue: “Hall of Fame” So obviously an athlete. Jennifer guesses Tom Brady. Ken guesses John Elway. Robin guesses Troy Aikman.
Showbird
Clues: Her ambassador is Joel McHale not really an alum? She was a tomboy growing up. A judges gavel. She starred in blockbuster movies.
Performance: Just Fine by Mary J. Blige – I can’t guess at the moment, but Snowbird’s voice is distinctive. The kind of voice the internets will nail quickly. She shakes her little tail feathers to end a cute performance. OnStageClue: A bucket of popcorn. Ken guesses Jennifer Hudson. Hm. No. Rita guesses Taraji P. Henson. Robin guesses Kerry Washington.
Ship
Clues: Ambassador is Jewel aka Queen of Hearts. Her career set sail at a massive clip, then she lost it. It took her a long to make it back to shore. “Unsinkable.” It sounds like they began their careers at the same time.
Performance: Pompeii by Bastille – She’s somebody who was famous for a time, but then fell out for whatever reason. A former pop star. This is another one the internets will easily guess. She doesn’t have a big voice, but it’s stylish and rangy. OnStageClue: A glitter cowboy hat. Rita guesses Cyndi Lauper. NOPPPPEEE. Jenny guesses Joan Osborne. Robin guesses Enya or Sara McLauchlan. Not Sara. She’s too famous for this show.
RESULTS
The studio audience and panel voted. The first singer to be unmasked is….Leaf Sheep. Of course. He can’t sing. Final guesses: Robin: Troy Aikman. Rita: Billy Bob Thornton. Ken: John Elway. Jennifer: Tom Brady. And Leaf Sheep is…John Elway! The costume required him to sit on a chair inside. I thought he might be laying prone!
