The Masked Singer 12 Semi-Finals Night: Who Was Unmasked?

The Masked Singer 12 Week 10: Who Was Unmasked on Semi-Finals Night?

The Masked Singer season 12 continues on to week 12 with Nick Cannon as host, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora on the judges panel. This week, the competition moves on to the Semi-Finals as the final three fight for a spot in finale. ONE celebrity mask will leave the competition.

Tonight’s group includes: Strawberry Shortcake, Wasp, and Buffalos.

The show opens with the Top 3 singing “Some Nights” by Fun. These group numbers are SO LIP SYNCED. Oh. Rita Ora was out with an illness the day this show was taped.

Strawberry Shortcake

Clues: She had a lot of rejection. She began to feel disenchanted with her dreams. She took a long break.

Performance: Lose You to Love Me by Selena Gomez – Strawberry is the weakest singer remaining. But the panel may save her for the sake of a diverse final (instead of two R&B acts). She’s a decent singer–the kind that sounds good on the radio. But while she has a nice tone, she doesn’t have much range going for her. Jenny wipes away a fake tear. A gift for the panel features a friendship bracelet. Strawberry is connected to Ken. “Press tour” She says, “One of the highlights of my career was the press tour we did together.” Ken guesses Joey King. Jenny guesses Sarah Hyland. Robin guesses Lucy Hale.

Buffalos

Clues: They had to work hard and told they needed to be something else. They tried to set an example. Their kids sing.

Performance: Africa by Toto – Cheesy Safari props! It’s amazing how this song has endured. Even the kiddos know it because of Tik Tok. Back in the day it got on my last nerve. Still, the Buffalos can sing and feature sublime harmonies. On Stage Clue: They give a bracelet to Jenny. “Donnie” She says “We go way back with Donnie. And we also go way back with you.” Jenny guesses Boyz II Men (Donnie toured with them) (And she is correct). Ken guesses Color Me Badd (because he’s a dork). Robin guesses After Seven.

Wasp

Clues: His mother signed him up to a talent show, to get him “out of the hood.” It was a turning point.

Performance: Beautiful Things by Benson Boone – Wasp kicks off the performance singing behind and interacting with the judges before taking the stage. This time, there is no dancing as Wasp tackles a ballad. OK Take that back. He ramps it up on the big chorus. Wasp gives his friendship bracelet to Robin. “Nashville” He says “We painted the town red in Nashville.” Robin guesses Anthony Ramos. Jenny guesses Jason Derulo. Ken knows exactly who it is–Usher.

An extra clue: “From performing with you to attending your epic parties, all three of us have a connection to you, the epic Nick Cannon.”

First Result and Smack Royale

The audience and panel voted. The mask with the HIGHEST votes moves on to the finale. Nick says the winner nabbed it with less that 1% of the vote! Going into the finale is…The Wasp! Now, Strawberry Shortcake and Buffalos will compete in the “SMACK ROYALE.” It’s a mashup of the Smackdown and Battle Royale. The masks will sing the same song, but trade back and forth.

The two acts sing “Counting Stars.” They are forced to perform in the same style. It’s one against three, which seems unfair. Earlier I mentioned that the panel might choose Strawberry Shortcake for diversity sake. Considering Jenny already guessed Buffalos identity makes me think they lose. The performance is solid.

Who is unmasked?

The winner of the Smack Royale is…Buffalos! OK I was wrong! Actually, they deserve the win. So, a big R&B competition coming up. Strawberry Shortcake is eliminated and will be UNMASKED. Final guesses: Robin: Kelsea Ballerini. Jenny: Sarah Hyland. Ken: Joey King. After the break, the big reveal! And Strawberry Shortcake is…AJ Michalka. Nick remembers her when she was wee little. Ken did press with AJ when she was on the Goldbergs. AJ is from Aly and AJ and she wanted to try a solo thing. But she’s currently making an album with her sister.
