The Masked Singer is coming back to FOX for the crazy singing show’s 7th season. On Sunday night (Feb 21), the network aired a preview special that revealed new masks, clues and a full performance preview.
Fifteen contestants total will be divided into three groups: The Good, The Bad and The Cudly. Sunday night’s 30 minute preview introduced 10 contestants, saving four for later.
Here are the new costumes, along with clues and a bit about the new innovations and novel ways the designers created each costume. Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger return to the judges panel. Nick Cannon hosts.
The Masked Singer season 7 premieres on FOX Wednesday March 9 at 8 pm ET/PT.
Meet the NEW season 7 masks below.
Team Good
McTerrier – McTerrier does a Scottish rocker thing. He speaks with a Scottish accent, giving off an Angus Young vibe. But he slips out of it for a moment, so it’s probably fake. However his clue is an electric guitar superimposed on a what looks like a wheat field. “I hope this isn’t too much fuzz!”
Prince – More specifically, the Prince is a frog. Waiting to be kissed, probably. When Prince tries on his head piece for the first time, he breaks into “You’re All I Need to Get By” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. In the clip, his voice is altered, however. The clue has Prince donning a football jacket with the number “30.” “Lessons over, pencils down.”
Firefly – Her costume seems extra heavy! She needs to carry an electric power pack in her costume, near her abdomen. Clue: A crown encrusted with diamonds and red jewels. “Maybe you’ll see me sparkle in something like this.”
TWO more members of Team Good will be revealed later.
Team Bad
Cyclops – “I’m the creeper, I only got one peeper,” he says. The gigantic eye can roll around anamatronically. The clue is an 1800s type map. It looks like a pirate map. ‘Maybe it’s a case of sea legs. But I think I’m finally getting the hang of this.”
Queen Cobra – The costumers designed Queen’s outfit so that she could dance. Her clue is a comic book picture of Superman. “Think you can work out who I am? Just remember, stay in your lane.”
Ram – The costume is based on “Roman centurions from 2000 years ago.” The headpiece is made of 600 sheets of 24K gold leaf. The clue is a football helmet bearing the number 6. “This isn’t the first time I’ve come head to head with an opponent. It’s time for me to hook it.”
One more Team Bad member will be revealed later.
Team Cuddly
Space Bunny – Space Bunny’s outfit is flame resistant to 500 degrees. Not sure why that’s necessary. Is Nick planning on setting him on fire? “Here comes your cuddly country clue,” says Nick. It’s the state of North Carolina in neon on a red, white and blue brick wall. “Maybe I’ll see you in the big city.”
Baby Mammoth – The outfit is made of many pieces of organza fastened to a mesh bodysuit. The costume features the biggest head in Masked Singer history. The clue is a pair of flat ruby red slippers. “WITCH celebrity am I?”
Thingamabob – Not to be confused with prior costume, Thingamajig. His mask is four feet wide. The clue is a photo of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. “Enjoy the ride, but don’t run out of gas.”
Lemur – She’s nine feet tall, and a disco diva. It’s the biggest character tail in Masked Singer history–8 feet. The clue is a ring light, the type that Youtube and TikTok influencers use. “I’m here to define my generation.”
One more member of Team Cudly will be revealed later
Watch Space Bunny sing the Calypso classic “Jump in the Line (Shake Senora)
I did not expect Space Bunny to sound like that. His voice sounds like an older gentlemen. It’s a fun performance that will send him to the next round, most likely.
The Masked Singer season 7 promo hints at a medical emergency on stage
The Masked Singer special preview ended with a new promo highlighting dramatic moments. There is lots of crying. “Expect the unexpected,” the promo declares, ripping off Big Brother’s tagline. The clip finishes with some sort of medical emergency. Ken, a trained doctor, jumps out of his seat and yells for a medic.
Interestingly, the clip does not tease the big spoiler that Deadline dropped a few weeks ago. According to reports, former mayor of New York City, and Trump “fixer” Rudy Giuliani is unmasked on the premiere, and Ken, an avowed liberal, leaves the stage in protest. Robin follows him off to make sure he’s OK. The thing is, producers probably leaked that spoiler to Deadline to get fans talking. Probably NOT a leak, it’s surprising that the promos aren’t at least hinting at the political drama.
