The Masked Singer season 9 heads into the quarterfinals on Wednesday (May 3). Four masked celebrities remain. California Roll, Macaw and UFO are the masks who each won in three rounds of competition. The judges saved the fourth celebrity, Medusa, during the first round earlier in the season. She emerged as the winner after battling fellow saved contestants in a wildcard round last week (April 26).
From the quarterfinal round, FOX drops a preview of California Roll covering Radiohead’s classic “Creep.” The five member costume once again displays their tight vocal harmonies and inventive arrangements. They are going to be hard to beat, in the end, and could very well be the first group to win The Masked Singer.
The clip only includes the performance. After that display of vocal prowess, if nobody on the judges panel–Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger–guesses their identity? Judges are keeping their cards close to their vests.
Who is California Roll?
As we’ve pointed out previously, California Roll is quite obviously the a cappella singing group, Pentatonix. I mean. C’MON. QUITE OBVIOUSLY! Pentatonix won the NBC a cappella singing competition The Sing-Off in 2011. Afterward, they first became social media sensations, racking up views on Youtube and more. Eventually their tours sold out worldwide. The group has been featured in specials across conventional and streaming networks. Most recently, they nailed a challenging performance of “Heroes and Villains” on the Grammy Salute to The Beach Boys, which aired on CBS.
Only ONE celebrity will be unmasked at the end of Wednesday’s episode. Next week is the semi-final featuring the three remaining celebrities. One more mask will be eliminated. On the May 17 finale, the final two face off for the trophy!
