The Masked Singer “Supreme Six” clip show featured THREE new Performances.
This week’s The Masked Singer mostly recapped the season so far, including throwbacks to season performances from the three round champions, California Roll, Macaw and UFO and the three wildcards, Gargoyle, Mantis and Medusa. The episode also featured NEW clues for all six contestants still in contention to win the crown.
While the three round champions will definitely go on to the Quarterfinals, the three wildcards will compete next week (April 26) in a “Battle of the Saved.” The winner of the battle will go on to compete as the fourth contestant in the Quarterfinal episode, set for May 3.
To recap, in each of the three rounds, the judges–Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger–were able to save ONE celebrity. Called the “Ding Dong Keep it On!” bell, a judge could jump up and ring the bell to save a singer.
Besides new clues, the clip show, dubbed “Supreme Six” also featured NEW PERFORMANCES from the round winners. Check out the performances and clues (and a few predictions) below.
California Roll
Watch California Roll bring out the harmonies on a rendition of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler. The a cappella harmonies at the end are especially lovely (WINK WINK).
California Roll Clues:
- Throwing a baseball, the perfect dish. “Pitch Perfect”
- Group Project on a school desk
- Pizza rat
- 5 Billion
Perdition: California Roll is certainly Pentatonix, the five member a cappella group that won the NBC competition show The Sing-Off in 2011. They even appeared in one of the Pitch Perfect movies, which centered on college a capella group competitions. The high school clue: Kirstin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying began singing together in high school back in Texas. They moved out to California and added a beatboxer and bass singer before auditioning for The Sing-Off.
Macaw
Check out Macaw’s BEAUTIFUL cover of “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran. It’s a competition winning, finale worthy performance.
Macaw Clues
- Telescope
- telenovelas
- Salsa
- Red arrows pointing up
Prediction: It’s a no brainer. Macaw is American Idol season 7 runner up David Archuleta. “Salsa” is a nod to David’s Latin heritage. David starred in a “tele nova” in the Philippines some years ago and the red arrows pointing up refer to his song “The Other Side of Down.” Fans guessed this one right away. He also mentions not having to “live up to anyone’s expectations.” David has shared publicly about struggling with self-doubt and issues with what he thought others wanted from him. He also mentions “being in enough competitions in my life to know you always have to be on the top of your game.” David competed in Idol, but also Star Search as a young kid.
UFO
Watch UFO’s ethereal performance of “Stargazing” by Kygo. She’s the least talented of the three round winners, but she presents herself on stage well.
UFO Clues
- UFO works at a sewing machine
- Jenny mentions that UFO has a “supermodel” body
- UFO carries a flag that says “I ‘heart’ IT”
- a Tiara
- “I love going to Europe. Always a chance to see royalty.”
- “I have the perfect space for it at home”
Prediction: Who do you think the UFO is?
This will likely be a showdown between California Roll (Pentatonix) and Macaw (David Archuleta), two acts who have competed in singing competitions before. Pentatonix won The Sing-Off while David came in second place on Idol. Could history repeat itself? Or not!
The Masked Singer airs on FOX on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT. The finale is set for May 17.
