The Masked Singer 9 Semi-Final Preview: Macaw Covers One Direction!
The semi-final showdown goes on Wednesday (May 10) between the final 3 celebrities left on The Masked Singer season 9. Only TWO masks will advance to next week’s head to head FINALE.
Ahead of the episode airing Wednesday May 10, FOX drops a fresh preview of Macaw performing a lively rendition of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”
Macaw has established his vocal bonafides with thrilling renditions of Elton John’s “Your Song,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” by Shania Twain and Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying.”
After displaying outstanding vocals and stage presence, the judges panel realized right away that Macaw is an experienced professional singer. And on last week’s episode, judge Nicole Scherzinger guessed Macaw’s identity under the mask.
Macaw’s identity is obvious to American Idol fans…
Every American Idol fan knows that Macaw is season 7 runner-up, David Archuleta. Fans familiar with his voice, demeanor and even the way he moves on stage immediately recognized the celebrity under the colorful feather costume. How fun that he’s covering a song by another singing show act, X Factor UK alums, One Direction. Watch the performance below.
Macaw practically gave it away
In fact, Macaw practically gave it away in his last performance, leaving strong hints that he has competed in singing shows before and also that he has experienced a big “transition” in the past few years. David came out as LGBTQ in 2021 and has been navigating that new reality honestly and openly.
“I thought at first I was not going to be able to handle the pressure of being on a stage like this again,” David told the judges after his performance last time. “But I’ve had such a fun time, after going through a lot of life transitions, I feel like I’m able to spread my wings. And show my true colors.”
