The Voice is lining up huge guests for next week’s season 16 finale. The Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift are set to perform.
“Major breaking news, you ready?” Kevin Jonas said in the clip announcing the group’s performance. “Joe, Nick and I, the Jonas Brothers, we will be singing our new single, ‘Cool,’ on the live Voice finale!” Nick added, “It’s gonna be an epic night of music. Don’t miss it.”
Host Carson Daly added “If it wasn’t enough music to announce…Taylor Swift is also going to be here with Brendon Urie [Panic at the Disco] and they’re going to do their hit “Me.”
There are so many The Voice connections here. Joe Jonas mentored for coach Adam Levine on The Voice season 13 in 2017 and coached on The Voice Australia in 2018. Nick Jonas served as a guest mentor for Christina Aguilera in Season 8. And Taylor Swift was a Key Knockouts advisor in 2014.
Curiously, The Voice social media announced that the super popular K-Pop group BTS would appear alongside the JoBros to make a joint announcement…but then there was no mention of BTS on the show. Yes, their super-invested fans were angry, to put it mildly. Lyndsey Parker of Yahoo Music investigated: “As of this writing, the show has not clarified what happened, announced if a (presumably pre-taped) BTS performance will air next week, or responded to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment,” she wrote.
Check out the clip that finally aired (sans BTS!) during Tuesday’s (May 14) results show, when eight contestants were winnowed down to four. Going to next week’s finals are Team Blake Shelton’s Gyth Rigdon, Andrew Sevener and Dexter Roberts plus Team John Legend’s Maelyn Jarmon. Team Kelly Clarkson and Team Adam Levine will be sitting this one out, unfortunately.
The Voice season 16 finale will air on NBC Tuesday, May 21.
