The Voice 17: Josie Jones Sings ‘Men and Mascara’ (VIDEO)

The Voice 17 Josie Jones Blind Audition

Watch sixteen year old Josie Jones perform Julie Roberts’ “Men and Mascara” from the upcoming The Voice 17 Blind Audition episode. At first only John Legend hit his button, until Blake Shelton finally turned his chair near the end of the country singer’s performance.

The Alabama native looked at Kelly Clarkson a bit askance when she compared her to singer Andra Day. “Her vibrato meets Maren Morris,” she says. “I love it!”

On the other hand, Gwen Stefani makes a more apt comparison, calling Josie a “little baby Stevie Nicks.” Josie sure has the rasp and vibrato to match.

John does his best to woo Josie, but it’s hard to imagine she would pick him over fellow southerner and country music artist, Blake. “You just have this straight laser tone that lays out there, and the pitch is incredible,” says Blake. “It gets me excited when I see the next generation of country artists that are coming along who honors traditional sounding country music.”

John reminds Josie that he turned first. But when Blake finally hit his button the relief on the faces of Josie’s family, who were standing offstage, was palpable. But stranger things have happened! We’ll find out who Josie chooses when The Voice airs Monday September 30 at 8 pm on NBC.

Here’s a super FUN FACT: The song’s original artist Julie Roberts was a NO chair turn on Season 4. And now an artist is singing her song in front of the coaches. How about that.
