The Voice season 17 LIVE shows begin next Monday (Nov 11). Instead of a Top 24 as in recent seasons, there will be a Top 20 competing for your votes. On Monday the artists will sing, and after an overnight vote, the results will be revealed on Tuesday (Nov 12) but with a twist.
On Tuesday’s results show, eight artists will be revealed as safe by America’s votes. Each coach will select an artist to save from their teams. The remaining artists from each team with the highest overnight vote will have a chance to compete for the wild card. After the instant vote, one artist will advance. A Top 13 will be unveiled.

Hm. It looks like the eight highest vote getters will move on regardless of team affiliation. In past playoffs, the two highest vote getters from each team advanced to the finals, with each coach saving one. (The explanation is straight off of the NBC press release). That’s a good change I think, as it saves artists who are stuck on talent-heavy teams.
ETA: Or maybe not. From the NBC site:
In the live Playoffs, the Top 20 artists will compete to secure a spot in the Live Shows. Each team has five artists left. Artists will perform, and the top two vote-earners on each team will automatically advance. Each coach will then have to select one of their remaining artists to complete their roster and move on to the final phase of the competition: the Live Shows.
Let’s vote in some polls. So far, this season is a big improvement over last season. By this time last spring, I had a clear favorite–the eventual winner, Maelyn Jarmon. Now I have severaL Who to pick? For that reason, fans can vote for THREE favorites in the Top 20 poll. Team John Legend is looking pretty strong. But Team Blake Shelton is looking good as well.
What did y’all think of Taylor Swift MEGA MENTOR? She’s a talented songwriter and performer, a savvy business woman, and has years of experience in the business. Also, as a bonafide country/pop crossover, she has useful advice for everybody. Still, she’s like the anti-Kelly Clarkson. She presents as calculating. I can almost see the wheels turning in her head as she speaks…
OK. Time to vote.
