Victor Solomon Finds Freedom in Energetic Finale Performance
In The Voice season 20 final performance show (May 24) Victor Solomon battled for the win. He first sang “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt, which he poured his soul into. I really felt what he was singing. It was not the cleanest vocal, as he sounded hoarse at times, but his vulnerability shown through.
Despite sounding a bit tired tonight, his vocal really came alive during the night’s show closer, his performance of Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar’s “Freedom.” The memorable performance even attempted Lamar’s rap part. With a dance troupe performing behind him, his stage presence was stellar. It proved that he’s more than a vocalist, he’s a showman. The vocal wasn’t perfect, but it felt raw as he brought energy and let loose, allowing Victor to really blossom.
Victor has been a solid vocalist throughout this competition, but at times has been a bit inconsistent. For instance, tonight he had one standout performance (“Freedom”) and one so-so performance (“I Can’t Make You Love Me”). But from the beginning, he’s been the frontrunner on Team John Legend.
When results are revealed, I am sure Victor won’t be the last man standing, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can beat out other contenders like Rachel Mac and Jordan Matthew Young. Rachel had a really nice setlist of memorable song choices, even if they weren’t the best vocals she’s delivered. Jordan delivered some of his best vocals to date. Although Rihanna’s “Stay” was an odd song choice, he actually pulled it off.
When it comes to crowning the winner, I am sure it will be between Team Blake Shelton’s Cam Anthony and Team Kelly Clarkson’s Kenzie Wheeler. Cam had by far the best performance of the night with Cynthia Erivo’s “Stand Up,” which seems to be a popular choice these days on TV music competition shows. Kenzie does have a very strong fan base, and prior to tonight was the clear favorite.
