Who from Team John Legend, Team Gwen Stefani, Team Niall Horan and Team Reba McEntire will make the cut? After last night’s viewer vote, 8 artists will be declared safe. Next, the bottom 4 singers will perform for America’s vote in the Instant Save. The winner will round out the Top 9 advancing to next week’s semi-final round.
Gwen Stefani sings about her “True Babe”
At the top of the show, Gwen Stefani is not in her seat, because she’s getting ready to perform. She sings her new single “True Babe.” She’s wearing a baggy outfit made out of what looks like parachute material. Kinda weird! In any case, it’s another song about her “true babe” husband Blake Shelton.
Carson declares the first three artists as SAFE
The Top 12 artists take center stage! And of course, Carson Daly starts off with REALLY DUMB QUESTIONS directed to the singers. He asks BIAS about his connection to Johnny Cash. He was happy to shine a light on a great artist. For Mara, Carson asks about Niall’s coaching. She calls his coaching “calming” and that it helped her confidence.
The first three SAFE contestants: America saved…from Team Legend…Mac Royals! He’s very excited. America also saved…from Team Gwen…BIAS! Performing last did help him last night. It also helped that he delivered a great performance. America also saved…from Team Reba…Ruby Leigh!
Two more artists declared safe
Carson asks Huntley how the show helped him grow. The singer calls it validation. He almost gave up on music to become a substitute teacher last year. Kara thanks both of her parents, who have sacrificed and supported her. The next two artists who are safe: America saved…from Team Niall…Mara Justine! America also saved…from Team Legend…Lila Forde! No dumb questions for Lila!
Reba McEntire sings her sentimental single “Seven Minutes in Heaven”
Now, Reba McEntire takes the stage to sing her new song “Seven Minutes in Heaven.” Oh this song is about what she’d ask people if she could spend “seven minutes in heaven.” She namechecks a few dead artists like Elvis and Johnny Cash. The song ends with a photo of Reba’s mother on the video screen. The coaches all give her a big hug as the crowd chants for her.
The FOUR artists singing for the save REVEALED
The seven remaining artists join Carson on stage. For Jordan: What’s the most important lesson that Reba taught her? Stay driven and passionate! Nini shares that America has given her so much. Oh. She took off her glasses. A little too late. She’s performing first. She’s solid–growling and working the stage. But she is not blowing the audience away. AZÁN and Kara Tenae are going to blow her off the stage. Niall can’t understand how she’s singing for her life. THE TOP 12 is STACKED that’s why. Reba agrees with Niall. “You’re personality is perfect for America” says Reba.
AZÁN – Team Legend – No Tears Left to Cry by Ariana Grande
The hip-hop elements in this arrangement are ambitious for a singing competition. She’s also having some pitch issues tonight. She might have done better with a more conventional arrangement of the song. Niall calls the song choice “incredible.” John calls her journey “incredible.” AZÁN has Charisma and reliance, John adds.
Tanner Massey – Gwen Stefani – More Than Words by Extreme
Oh Dear. He’s not singing a NOTE IN TUNE. And his timing is abysmal. The poor guy must be so nervous. He has had problems with tuning all through the competition. But tonight. He’s going to watch this back and CRINGE CRINGE CRINGE. Sad this will be his last impression on The Voice. He’s had decent moments in the competition. Yeah, keep that smile plastered on your face Gwen. “There was a little tuning, not going to lie,” she confesses. Carson mentions that the song leaves nowhere to hide. She gives him a pep talk. “It’s a moment in time,” she assures him about the performance.
Kara Tenae – Team Gwen – Love Takes Time by Mariah Carey
Kara sings last, and as she always does, she nails the performance while pouring her heart into the song. Oh well. At least Gwen still has Kara! Gwen calls the performance “ridiculous.” She begs America to vote. “You’re such an amazing person,” she says.

Before the results are revealed, the four contestants thank their coaches. Reba is proud of Jordan. She compliments her work ethic. AZÁN calls John Legend “the best coach in the world.” John calls AZAN’s spirit beautiful and humble. “I see the work she puts in…she puts in the time to get it right.” Tanner appreciates that Gwen took him under her wing. Gwen loves working with young talent like Tanner. “We all go home!” she says setting up his inevitable elimination. Kara appreciates that Gwen helped instill confidence in her. “You amaze me every time,” says Gwen.
America INSTANTLY SAVED….Jordan Rainer! OK. I’m really surprised. She performed first, and didn’t blow the room away. Kara was robbed! Gwen has ONE remaining artist in the competition–BIAS–and he’ll probably be eliminated before the finale.
