The Voice 21 Recap: Top 13 Finalists Perform Dedications (Videos)
Who from Team Blake Shelton, Team Kelly Clarkson, Team John Legend and Team Ariana Grande will make the cut? After last night’s viewer vote, the Top 10 vote getters will advance. Next, the bottom 3 vote getters will compete for the Instant Save. After the vote, the winner will join the Top 10, with 11 contestants moving on to next week’s episode.
John and Kelly will perform with their respective teams tonight.
Results! The Top 13 take the stage. Host Carson Daly notes the group looks like more than 13. BECAUSE GROUPS. What would eliminations be without Carson’s Dumb Questions? Less annoying, probably. In response to a question about the teachers to whom she dedicated her song, Jershika thanks them for helping her work through a learning disability. Now, Carson reveals the first three artists who are safe. America saved…Girl Named Tom from Team Kelly. America also saved, from Team Legend, Jershika Maple! America also saved…from Team Ariana…Holly Forbes!
Team Legend Performs
Next, John Legend joins his team, Joshua Vacanti, Jershika Maple and Shadale to perform Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.” The performance starts off all slow and ballady, and then transforms into a soulful jam. Hm. Joshua SHOULD NOT DANCE M’KAY. Regardless, this is a great performance. Shadale and Jershika are sublime! Joshua is pretty solid too.
Now, the remaining 10 artists take the stage. Ryleigh gets the next Dumb Question from Carson. Her sister and family’s support has meant everything to her. “I feel the love from so far away,” she says. Joshua has a message for fellow theater kids that they are worthy, matter and are loved. Carson announces the next two saved artists. America saved…from Team Blake…Wendy Moten! No surprises yet. America also SAVED…from Team Kelly…Hailey Mia!
The remaining 8 acts are on stage. Shadale says her parents taught her not to compare herself to other people and to keep believing in yourself. And Paris gets the next dumb question. If he could talk to his late grandparents he would tell them that he loves them so much, the “three pillars that kept everything together.” America saved…from Team Legend…Joshua Vacanti! America also saved…from Team Ariana…Jim & Sasha Allen. REALLY America? America also saved…from Team Blake…Paris Winningham.
Team Kelly Performs
Now, Kelly takes the stage with her Team, Girl Named Tom, Gymani and Jeremy Rosado to sing “U Move I Move,’ by John Legend. Carson mentions that John is just finding out now about the cover tonight. Girl Named Tom supplies ALL the gorgeous harmonies. Then Kelly hits an amazing high note in her head voice. Lovely.
The Bottom 3 Revealed
The last results: Five remaining artists hit the stage. Lana’s dad has given her “unfaltered” support tgat has kept her going. Gymani thanks her mom for being an amazing woman of God and for “…all the lessons she taught her…now I can pass those on to my daughters…I’m doing this for us,” she says. Kelly wipes away tears. Finally, Jeremy thanks his father and The Voice. America Saved…Jeremy Rosado from Team Kelly! He’s in shock. And it’s official. Jeremy has gone farther on The Voice than he did on American Idol 11, where he finished in 13th place. America also saved….Lana Scott from Team Blake. Of course. She’s the only country artist remaining in the competition.
Shadale, Gymani and Ryleigh Plank are in the Bottom 3 and will perform for the Instant Save. Not surprised there are talented R&B singers in the bottom. There are too many competing at once. However, I was hoping there would be only one. I understand why Shadale is there–she picked the wrong song last night. But Gymani delivered a sensational performance. She deserves to stay. Ryleigh has been uneven all season. Ariana kept saving her. America keeps saying no.
Instant Save Performances
Shadale – Team Legend – Breathe by Faith Hill – Shadale seems shaken up as she sings for her life, but she hits her stride by the end of the song It’s another unexpected song choice. She’s taking risks. But maybe now isn’t that time for that. Her passion is wonderful. “You’ve shown so many aspects of your voice….” John begs America to vote for Shadale.
Gymani – Sweet Love by Anita Baker – Gymani’s version of the song is full of growls and adlibs. She finsh with some jazzy scatting. Not as smooth as the Anita Baker original, but very very fierce. Kelly compliments Gymani’s lows and her highs. She can’t believe Gymani hit the B3. Neither can I. Kelly begs America to vote.
Ryleigh Plank – Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande – Oh, Ryleigh is covering her coach Ariana. It’s like a bat signal to the Arianators. I said in an earlier prediction that Shadale could beat Ryleigh in the Instant Save. But nope. I don’t think she can. Ariana’s fans will go crazy and vote. Also, other than some shaky high notes, Ryleigh is elevating her game. Ariana begs America to stop what they are doing and vote for Ryleigh right now.

The Instant Save WINNER is revealed
After the break, Shadale thanks John for everything. “You pushed me to my limits…you are a wonderful coach.” Gymani thanks Kelly for being an amazing role model for the team. She calls her a great mother and a “best friend.” Ryleigh calls Ariana a “great amazing friend…I cherish every moment I’ve had with you.”
Kelly calls Gymani an incredible performer, and notes that she was the glue in the group number. “You inspire me…push me.” Kelly promises that Gymani “…can sing with me any time.” Ariana is so deeply proud of Ryleigh. She starts crying. “You remind me of little me in so many ways…I am so thankful to have worked with you.” John thinks Shadale lives the things her parents taught her everyday. He compliments her drive and beautiful voice.
America INSTANTLY SAVED Gymani! YES YES YES!!!!
Gymani looks SHOCKED. The panel seemed to expect Gymani and Shadale to leave the competition. Kelly was thrilled, but seemed surprised. The result surprised me too.
I voted for Gymani, but would not have been mad if Shadale won the Instant Save. However, Gymani delivered the best performances of the night, and didn’t belong in the Bottom 3 to begin with. It should have been Jim & Sasha Allen instead, and then going home with Ryleigh.
