The Voice 21 Twist: Vote a ‘Comeback’ Artist Into the Playoffs! (Sort of)

The Voice Knockouts are done! The Live Shows begin next Monday (Nov 8). The coaches had their say. Now it’s time for fans to vote a singer into the Live Playoffs.

Each of the coaches–Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Ariana Grande–chose an eliminated artist to compete for the spot. To vote for their favorite, fans can tweet #TheVoiceComeback and the artist’s first name until 7am tomorrow (Nov 2) morning.

But the Twist has a TWIST!

The “Comeback” winner will not enter the competition until the Results show Instant-Save

From the NBC Voting FAQ: Viewers will vote to select one artist to compete in the November 9th playoffs Save. The winner of The Comeback vote will join the competition and appear on the playoffs save ballot.

After the highest vote getters and coaches saves are announced, the remaining artist from each team competes in the Instant Save for an extra spot in the finals. The Comeback winner will join those artists to compete for a chance to join the Live Finals.

Also, The Voice Comeback vote is OPEN WORLDWIDE! Now, that’s a major twist. Typically, voting is only open to fans in the United States.

The Voice 21 Comeback Stage

Interestingly, coaches could pick singers who lost in either the Knockouts OR the Battles!

  • Team Kelly Clarkson chose Aaron Hines a 4-chair turn who lost in The Battles to Gymani. The two sang “Working” by Tate McRae. (Video) He sang “Heartbreak Anniversary” in the Blinds (Video) – #VoiceComeback Aaron
  • Team Ariana Grande chose Vaughn Mogul. Remember how the show made such a big deal of Vaughn, the singing nurse after his Blind Audition (Video). But then he lost his Battle performance to Katherine Ann Mohler. The two sang “Dilema” (Video) #VoiceComeback Vaughn
  • Team Blake Shelton chose Hailey Green – Plenty of people were BIG MAD when country rocker Hailey lost her Knockout to Libianca. Hailey sang God’s Country. (Video). At 14, in the fall 2020, Hailey sang the Allman Brothers “Soulshine” and didn’t get a turn (Video). She returned this season with a Blind Audition performance of Marc Broussard’s “Home” that got a turn from Blake (Video). #VoiceComeback Hailey
  • Team John Legend chose Samara Brown – Samara, sister to season 3 artist Amanda Brown, lost her Knockout (tonight!) to Shadale. To watch her performance of “The Best” by Tina Turner, read our recap HERE. She sang Chaka Khan’s “Sweet Thing” for her Blind Audition (Video) #VoiceComeback Samara

Ariana Grande’s Worldwide Fanbase is a FORCE

If the vote was US citizens only, Knockout winners Samara Brown and Hailey Green would have an advantage–just because they are fresh in fans’s minds.

But with a worldwide vote, and the power of Ariana’s worldwide fanbase, and Filipinos who LOVE their US singing show contestants with Filipino heritage, Battle Round loser, Vaughn Mogul from Team Ariana could take it all.

Team Blake Shelton’s Hailey Green is a fan favorite and has a shot to win. But poor  4-chair turn Aaron Hines is gonna be “AARON WHO?” for many viewers. For Team Kelly, Kinsey Rose would have been a better choice for the comeback. And I wish John would have brought back another Knockout loser, BrittanyBree, instead of Samara.

But, the worldwide Arianators have probably got this.

Meanwhile, here are your Top 20! The spoilers got it mostly correct.
