Gwen Stefani hinted about this particular The Voice Blind Audition in recent interviews, and here it is. A young singer covers her song, “Don’t Speak” and she literally squeals at the opening bars.
Interestingly, new coach Camila Cabello, hits her button first, followed by Gwen, who shouts “OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU.” The singer, Alyssa Witrado, doesn’t bring a different interpretation of the song, but seems a little nervous. And she looks younger than her 19 years. She has CRAZY EYELASHES!
John Legend, who doesn’t really like artists to cover his songs, notes that it’s difficult to sing a coach’s song in front of them.
“I love you Gwen,” Alyssa gushes. “Camila, you’ve got no shot,” John observes. Alyssa jumps in to say, “I love you too, Camila, I love you so much.” But it seems obvious that she loves Gwen more. Blake Shelton jokes about his wife Gwen, “I do the same thing every morning when she comes down the stairs!” He calls Alyssa’s song choice a “bold move.”
Camila mentions that she did turn around first and loves the song choice. “I love that you sang it like you.” adding, “I feel like we have a lot of the same music taste” and “We both love Gwen Stefani!”
Gwen calls “Don’t Speak” a “really weird song” that’s hard to cover. “It really did sound so good. It did.” Camila keeps insisting that she didn’t copy Gwen’s tone, but she actually did? Her intonation and phrasing was similar to Gwen’s.
“What I like about you is your energy,” said Gwen. “You’re wild. I can see something bursting in you that wants to come out.” Gwen adds, “How do we get it? How do we discover it?”
No disrespect to Camila whom Gwen compliments, but she believes that Alyssa is “the perfect ideal dream girl for me on The Voice to work with.”
“I love you so so so much, you have no idea,” says an excited Alyssa. And y’all will have to wait until the episode airs on Tuesday September 20 on NBC (tonight) at 8 pm ET/PT. Watch the performance below!
