The Voice season 24 FINAL performances aired Monday night. (Dec 18). The Top 5 battled out for YOUR votes and for the opportunity to be crowned the WINNER on Tuesday (Dec 19). Each artist sang twice–one uptempo number and a ballad. Host Carson Daly pointed out that ALL five finalists turned four chairs in the Blinds, which is a first. Now it’s time for YOU to vote for your favorites and predict the WINNER.
First big thanks to Ashley Amber who live blogged the final performances while I sat at home without electricity or cable for 12 hours! BOO NEW ENGLAND STORMS. But I’m back, and have finally watched the final. (Read our Recap)
The Voice 24 Finale Top 5 Ranked Power List – Rate the Artists!
Each contestant delivered at least one great performance. Gotta give big ups to Jacquie Roar and Mara Justine who come to the competition to WIN. Jacquie stepped completely away from country music to show off her impressive rock n roll chops. The delivery of high note after high note during “More than a Feeling” was mind blowing. Her voice seemed a little tired during “Nights in White Satin,” but she delivered the emotional goods. Justine infused Adele’s “Turning Tables” with tender emotion while employing her rasp to full effect on “Piece of My Heart.”
Does Jacquie or Mara deserve the win?
If the best performance of the night won the show, Jacquie or Mara would deserve the win! But that’s not how singing competitions work. Ha.
Lila Forde had the night’s worst performance. She tried to “jazz up” the country/americana standard, “The Weight” and that just did not work. She had pitch problems through the entire song. She does this thing where she slides from note to note, and it just DID NOT WORK for this performance. However, the singer-songwriter left the night on a high note. Her wispy, ethereal vocal style was perfect for The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.” She took the audience an a beautiful, meditative ride.
“Suspicious Minds” theme of how jealousy can tear apart a relationship was beyond Ruby Leigh’s years. And Reba McEntire may be coaching the young country artist to oversing. Her phrasing was too animated and lacked genuine storytelling. Also, Ruby is awkward without her guitar. However, she delivered a heartfelt performance of “Desperado” later in the show. She’s still young. Vocally, she’s a powerhouse, but is sill learning how to use her instrument. Her storytelling ability is bound to get better and better as she grows older.
Did Huntley do enough?
Lastly, Huntley never fails to take the stage and kill it. But I did not love his song choices for the finale. Closing with a Creed cover? Really? I guess his coach Niall Horan insisted on it. When he began rising in the air on a mechanical platform, it just came off as too literal, like a singer who mimes the lyrics with their hands. So, not my favorite night of performances from Huntley. But putting my dislike of certain 90s pop rock songs aside, he did more than enough to earn viewer votes.
Speaking of VOTING. TIME TO VOTE VOTE VOTE in our polls! A few hours before tonight’s (Dec 19) results show at 9 pm ET/PT, I will post the results and predictions.
