The Voice 24 Preview: Reba McEntire’s first day on set isn’t easy, “They’re real mean!”
A new black & white featurette from The Voice features the season 24 coaches as they navigate their first day on set.
“The Season 24 Blind Auditions we’re back! The reigning champ is here!” declares Niall Horan, who won season 23 last spring with teen singer-songwriter Gina Miles. “It’s like the first day of school,” Niall explains as he walks through the front doors of the studio.
As the coaches congregate backstage, new coach Reba McEntire is looking for Niall.”You’ve lost one! You’ve lost the little one,” she quips. “The queen is here,” Niall says as he joins the coaches sitting round a a table for a pre-shoot chat.
Being the newbie on set, Reba has questions. “Am I supposed to like you all? Be mean to you? Is there something I need to know to let me win?” John Legend responds, “You’re supposed to direct all the artists my way….that’s the rule.” Reba isn’t buying it. “What?” Gwen Stefani chimes in, “for sure my way!”
The point is to “beat each other!” John laughs.
They block you, and it’s just so devious!
“I’m looking forward to a little bit of a battle with you guys,” Niall declares. Gwen seemingly attempting to disarm the former One Direction band member responds, “I’m not going to lie, but that accent is cute.” Reba agrees, “It is so cute!” At that, Niall shouts out to Gwen’s husband, and retired The Voice coach, “You hear that Shelton!”
Next, the coaches hit the stage to compete for artists. Afterward, Reba admits, “The Blind Auditions were so much harder than I thought they were going to be,” adding “They block you and it’s just so devious!” She’s referring to coaches ability to block a another coach from bidding on a contestant. Each coach gets one successful block each. “But a lot of fun too,” Reba concludes.
Reba sums up her first day as a The Voice coach: “Everybody is just as sweet and kind offstage as they can be,” says Reba. “When they come on the stage, though, they kind of change their personalities.”
“They’re real mean,” Reba confesses. “Especially Gwen!
