The Voice 26: J. Paul and Kamila Kiehne “Toxic” Battle for a Spot on Team Buble
The Voice 26 Battles conclude Monday Night (Nov 4) on NBC! Watch J. Paul and Kamila Kiehne battle for a spot on Team Michael Buble and the Knockouts with a cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”
The two singers displayed a soulful strut on the classic. They sang with a slinky confidence and a wink and a nod. The performance ended with a round of steller harmonies. The performance got better and better as it worked to a satisfying conclusion.
Snoop Dogg called the performance “a real presentation,” adding “and the way y’all work together, y’all had a routine.” He noted that Kamila is only 17 years old. He gushed over her range and the depth of her voice. “You ahead of the curve right now!” he said. Snoop could tell that J. Paul grew up singing in church. He’s a pastor’s kid. He felt that the song put handcuffs on him because he couldn’t really go where he wanted to go. “But I heard the Lord in there,” Snoop added. As usual, Snoop would not choose a winner.
Reba McEntire called Kamila “amazing” and complimented her ability to work the stage with confidence. She loved J. Paul’s range. If she had to pick one, Reba would go with Kamila.
Gwen Stefani noted how Kamila is young and still has room to grown, while J. Paul is “already there.” She added, “Your voice is insane.” Therefore, if she had to choose someone based on vocal performance, she would pick J. Paul as the Battle winner.
Who will Michael Buble choose to move on to the Knockouts?
Michael gushed he was a “proud dad” then joked, “a young, really handsome proud dad.” He praised Kamila for coming out on stage and crushing it. He believes that J. Paul has all the vocal ability in the world. Before he made his decision, he reminded the singers that The Voice will be just a “small part” of their careers. He added, “You will have this forever.”
After hemming and hawing for a bit, Michael said, “It’s called The Voice, so the winner of the Battle round tonight is who I felt gave me a better vocal performance….”
And to find out who he chose, tune into The Voice Monday, November 4 at 8 pm ET/PT, streaming on Peacock next day.
