The Voice 2024: Full Season 26 Schedule (UPDATED)
The Voice 26 Taps Jennifer Hudson, Sting as Knockouts Mentors
The cast celebrates Michael’s birthday. And he’s lying about it. Ha ha ha.
Lauren-Michael Sellers, Danny Joseph, Tate Renner – Team Reba
Danny Joseph – It Hurt So Bad by Susan Tedeschi.
The Brit who lives in the US suffers from Crohn’s disease. His disease literally causes physical pain. Oh. Recently he had his colon removed. Wow. That’s tough stuff.
His guitar playing is the icing on top of a gravelly, expressive voice. He’s also very expressive physically without working the stage. He’s not afraid to make an ugly face! He grabs the mic at the end to hit a final dramatic note.
Lauren-Michael Sellers – Hold On To Me by Lauren Daigle
The singer shares that she recently lost her mother to an overdose. They weren’t speaking at the time. She found her faith through the experience. Reba is crying AGAIN and so is Lauren-Michael. “It’s precious it’s your own,” says Jennifer.
Lauren-Michael is soulful and strong and could have a career in the gospel world. Maybe she will. She’s not holding her emotions back as she sings with a raspy and commanding voice. Her range is amazing. The coaches, emotional, are on their feet.
Tate Renner – In Color by Jamey Johnson
His grandfather inspired him to choose the song. Reba suggests he be careful not to touch the mic with his mouth. Jennifer coaches him to let the song “flow through.”
Tate sings the song tenderly and emotionally, telling a cogent story with his raspy, resonate voice. He builds the song nicely from verse to chorus to verse, keeping the attention of the audience.
Michael admits he wanted each of the singers in the Blinds. Gwen calls Lauren-Michael “unbelievable” she’d pick her, although she liked Danny as well. Snoop also turned for all three singers. He appreciates the way Danny sings soul. He has no notes for Lauren-Michael, “so perfect” he says. Reba is proud of all three, but Reba picks Lauren-Michael, and then SAVES Danny. Snoop wanted to steal him. Tate is eliminated. That was a talented trio! The right one went home, but in a different set up, Tate could have been saved.
Jan Dan, Sydney Sterlace (Mor Ilderton dropped out before mentor session – Team Gwen
OH GEEZ. ANOTHER Drop out. Mor Ilderton dropped out, Gwen revealed a singer she stole in the last round “had to go home.”
Jan Dan – Angels Like You by Miley Cyrus
Because of the show, he barely made it for the birth of his daughter. He explains that he loves traversing genres. Sting wants the beginning of the song to sound more personal. “More dynamics” says Gwen.
Interesting song choice from Jan, which allows him to stand out from the other R&B singers. He’s not afraid to step out of his box. He got off to a slow start, but was in full force by the last verse.
Sydney Sterlace – Bruises by Lewis Capaldi
Sydney is only 15 years old and has never been through a heartbreak. But she has studied acting with Broadway actors. Gwen is so moved by her rehearsal that she jumps out of her seat for a hug. She pushed Sydney for “more character” and wants the “Sydney version.” Sting gives her advice on how to use the mic.
Gwen loves her young singers. It’s hard to imagine her not holding on to Sydney. She mentioned studying with actors and that’s obviously helped her. She still has room to grow as a singer, but for a young teen, she’s fearless.
Michael calls both performances “stellar.” Snoop felt both singers picked the perfect song, but thinks Sydney could win the show. Reba believes Sydney is NOT 15! Gwen calls Jan’s voice “artful.” Gwen gushes that Sydney has grown. She loves both. But Gwen picks Sydney, and also saves Jan. Gwen gave it away saying she wanted to work with him more.
Aliyah Khaylyn, Georgia Starnes, Mary McAvoy – Team Snoop
Mentoring and performances are montaged here. It’s had to get a real feel for their performances.
Georgia Starnes – Parachute by Chris Stapleton
Mary McAvoy – High and Dry by Radio Head
Aliyah Khaylyn – Angel
Aliyah reaches for the high notes, but the song is out of her range. Snoop felt she did a good job and Snoop picks Aliyah. Georgia and Mary are eliminated.
ChrisDeo, Mikaela Ayira, Torre Blake – Team Blake
ChrisDeo – Beneath Your Beautiful by Labyrinth
The singer had a difficult childhood growing up in the projects. Sting thinks she could be more relaxed. “C’mon, come out!” Snoop coaxes. A teen singer, she SOUNDS young and could use a few more years for her vocal tone and approach to mature. Nevertheless, Snoop wipes tears from his eyes as she finished her performance.
Mikaela Ayira – Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara
Snoop liked that Mikaela didn’t pick an expected song and took a risk. Her mom is her inspiration. Snoop wants her to sing it like it’s “her record.” Sting wants to hear and see the smile in her voice.
The beginning needed more dynamics and tuning. But she hits her stride on the song’s chorus. Her stage presence is comfortable. But the song might be too big for her. She’ never hit big emotional highs in the song. Snoop is still crying.
Torre Blake – Slow Burn by Kacey Musgraves
She first heard the song at a challenging time of her life. Snoop appreciates that she did “her.” He compares her to Sade, another subtle singer. Sting adds that she added her own personality to the story.
Torre is the most mature of the three singers. Her style if low key which may not translate to singing show audiences. If the audience was voting, she’d be in trouble! Still she has an interesting style that would work in a club or even on a well produced record.
Reba calls ChrisDeo sweet and pure. She liked all three, but she’d take Chris. Gwen enjoyed Torre as a fan, but liked the other two singers as well. She’s not choosing Michael calls all three singers strong and powerful. Snoop is very emotional. He describes them like his daughters. He’s so upset, he’s crying real tears. Snoop picks Mikaela, ChrisDeo and Torre are eliminated. Mikaela wasn’t perfect, but she had the best package of the three. ChrisDeo is crying and Snoop hugs her.
Kiara Vega, Jeremy, Sofronio Vasquez – Team Buble
Jeremy Beloate – Golden Hour by Jvke
Jeremy sings with a Broadway worthy theatrical voice. He can sing operatically, even. He picked the song because it reminds him of his Mississippi grandparents. But he lives in New York and embraces his sexuality and would love to be a dad.
Jeremy is really good! But Broadway style singers have a difficult time advancing on these shows. His voice is not only theatrical, but unusual. His vocal and emotional range are amazing. Snoop admits he never heard the song before!
Kiara Vega – Call Out My Name by The Weeknd
Her mom put in the singer’s audition. She misses her twin sister. She calls her so Jennifer and Michael can say hi to the family. Kiara performed partly in Spanish for her Blind Audition. Jennifer advises her to “finish off” everything she’s singing. Michael adds, “don’t close your eyes too much.
Kiara made a smart song choice, picking a pop song that shows off her R&B chops. Her tone, with just a bit of rasp, is arresting–gorgeous phrasing and dynamics from this gal.
Sofronio Vasquez – You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me by Dusty Springfield.
Sofronio first sang the song back in the Philippines at age 7. His father died in 2019. The family couldn’t afford a transplant. After his rehearsal performance, Jennifer threw her shoe at him. “You are the song,” she said. “There’s no ceiling.”
Like Jeremy, Sofronio is also a theatrical singer, but he’s more Celine/Whitney rather than Broadway. Sofronio puts his own spin on an old classic. He makes a few interesting choices here. He could have just generically belted it out.
Kiara gave Snoop chills, but he thought Jeremy was the best. Oh. I’m surprised by that. Reba calls Kiara “cute as a button.” She compliments Sofronie’s stage presence. He’d pick Jeremy. Michael compares Kiara to Ariana Grande. Michael picks Sofronio, Snoop steals Jeremy, Kiara is eliminated. I expected Michael to pick Sofronio, and Snoop to steal Kiara. Jeremy deserved to advance to the next round, so it’s all cool.
