The Voice 27: Watch indie artists Iris Herrera and Simone Marijic battle for a spot on Team Kelsea Ballerini
During The Voice 27 Battles Ppart 3 airing March 24, Iris Herrera and Simone Marijic perform Lizzy McAlpine’s “ceiling” for a spot on Team Kelsea Ballerini.
Simone’s angelic voice floats around the melody, while Iris boasts an unmistakable and stylized tone. Iris pops, but there is something to Simone’s fragile, crystalline sound that is irresistible. The two harmonize beautifully. The choice will come down to the type of voice Kelsea wants on her team. The coaches used all their saves, But Michael Bublé (and Kelsea) haven’t used their steals yet.
“Kelsea honored you by choosing a really great song,” Michael noted, “It starts off very exposed, and I thought both of you sang so beautifully in those more tender parts.” He said, “Iris, your voice has this wonderful kind of grit and there’s a depth to it that I love.” About Simone, Michael said, “I loved your little lilt, I loved your little accents.” He also complimented the singers on their harmonies. He wanted both singers on his team during the Blinds. So he’s going to keep to himself whom he’d choose.
John Legend also loved the “lilt” in Simone’s voice. “It was really compelling to hear you navigate all those really difficult parts at the beginning.” He called Iris’ tone “really glorious” and loved “the power in it,” and “rasp in it.” He complimented her style, adding that she “carries herself on stage with the presence of a star.”

“You’re both talented and you’re so bold and brave for being here at the age that you are”
Adam Levine admitted that he didn’t turn for either singer during the Blind Auditions. “All I have been doing is regretting that because the transition from the Blind Auditions to now is always so surprising.” The coach would pick Iris “Only because I’m a sucker for tone.” There was a moment he was so impressed with Iris that he looked over at Kelsea in disbelief.
Kelsea compared Simone’s voice to a feather. “You have these really strong needy parts to it, but then you have these edges that just fray off. It feels light and fluffy sometimes, but then feels really strong and powerful.” To Iris, Kelsea remarked that she’s said it so many times it’s become weird, “The vibrato on some of her notes is so tasty. It’s a trademark to your voice.” Kelsea said, “You’re both talented and you’re so bold and brave for being here at the age that you are.” Kelsea joked that she’s their “older sister by 10 years.”

Who will Kelsea choose? Will Michael steal the loser, or will they be sent home instead of to the Knockouts? Find out on The Voice Battles 3 airing on NBC Monday March 24. It streams next day on Peacock. The Battle teams will be complete. The Knockouts begin on March 31.
