The Voice 27: John Legend fights for Kelsea Ballerini fan, Tatum Scott to join his team

The Voice 27 continues this week with the show’s second Blind Audition. In a new preview NBC dropped last week, singer Tatum Scott impresses the coaches with her take on “vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo.

John Legend is the first to hit his button for the singer’s emotional rendition. Kelsea Ballerini is next, while Adam Levine thinks about it. However, in the end he stays put, as does Michael Buble. While Tatum had opportunities within the song arrangement, she never hit the big notes that singing show coaches and judges crave.

But does it matter that she only received two turns? It’s immediately obvious that she LOVES Kelsea. She even pointed at her from the stage as she performed. “I love you Kelsea” she squealed after her performance. “I see where this is going!” John responded.

When the 22 year old singer revealed she’s from Nashville. Kelsea, also from Music City, jumped out of her chair to say “I also live in Nashville…and I have those pants!” Tatum was well aware that she and Kelsea lived in the same town. And she saw the country singer sporting the same wide legged, ripped and sparkled jeans when she saw her in concert.

Kelsea complimented Tatum on her lower register and added, “You picked such a great song. I mean, Olivia is amazing.” Kelsea continued her convincing pitch, “There is no one that knows what it is like to be a woman in Nashville.” John was well aware that he was finished!

“I have nothing else to say…We know what’s going to happen here!”

“So Tatum!” Adam snarked. “Welcome to Team Kelsea!” John responds, “I’m not out of this yet!” Adam laughed, “God speed and good luck!” Making the situation even worse for John, Michael jumped in and advocated for Kelsea, “This is your dream.” he said pointing at Kelsea, “This woman got to live out her dream, and now she gets to help you live out yours.”

“It’s like John doesn’t exist right now!” Adam quiped, adding, “Let the man speak!” Finally, John gave it a go. reminding Tatum that he turned for her first. “Kelsea was a little late,” he added, “The level of confidence and calm it takes to sing those low parts is super hard. I pushed the button, I felt like I had a decent shot, and then you guys started talking. I felt this bond that we may have had dissolving.”

John then reminded Tatum that Kelsea has never done the show before adding, “I have so much experience helping young artists navigate their way through this show.” He insisted that while Kelsea MAY do a good job, her ability to be a good coach is unknown at this point.

A little wounded by John’s sharp attack, Kelsea jumped in to say that where she lacks in experience, she makes up with passion. “I have so much fire under my butt to kill it for you, and I will. I have a lot to prove.”

“I have nothing else to say,” John finally conceded, “We know what’s going to happen here!”

The Voice 27 Blind Auditions air on NBC Monday February 10 at 8 pm ET/PT, streaming on HULU next day.
