The Voice 27 Knockouts: Pop Singer Britton Moore Takes a Risk with a Country Hit

The Voice Season 27 Knockouts continued with a shorter 1-hour episode on Monday night (April 7). There were only three full pairings and a montage, and it was the final pairing of the night between 21-year-old’s Britton Moore and Ari Camille, from Team Adam Levine, that impressed the most, earning a steal for the pairing.

Team Adam is a team that has been very strong from top to bottom this season. Britton has been a frontrunner throughout the competition whereas Ari was Adam’s Battle steal. Ultimately, Britton came out on top in the pairing.

Britton sang “Free” by Zac Brown Band which shocked Adam a bit when the singer first revealed his choice. “I’m from Texas, country music is in my heart, but that’s not really my genre,” he responded Britton took a risk. He’s never performed country music on a stage before The Voice. The song is about “if you have love, you don’t need anything else,” he shared in his video package He’s not currently in a relationship. His parents’ love for each other will inspire his interpretation. Adam called his tone “buttery.” and suggested he stay on the mic, so the audience could really hear his voice. He advised both singers to be confident.

Britton brought storytelling skills to The Voice stage

Britton was subdued at the beginning of his performance. In previous times on the stage, he kicked off with bigger moments. But there was a storytelling quality that came through, more than through his previous The Voice outings. A slight yodel came through in his tone too, showcasing a new side of himself. As always, he was excellent at controlling his voice, hitting nearly every note. However, I hope he goes back to singing pop music after this. Country doesn’t suit him as well, even if he still gave a solid performance.

Kelsea Ballerini described Britton’s voice as “crisp and perfect” adding that it sounded “self-autotuned.” Michael Bublé felt that Britton’s voice had a “youthful beauty” to it. Britton won the Knockout, he said. John Legend said Britton was “pitch perfect” and “masterful.” His coach, Adam, declared that Britton sings “the living crap out of everything.” It was not shocking that Adam chose Britton to move on to the Playoffs as he has been a top contender since his Blind Audition.

Team Legend stole back Ari Camille

Ari performed before Britton, singing “Love Like This” by Faith Evans which has seen a resurgence due to its popularity as a sound on social media. Her raspy tone really shone on the song even if the phrasing was difficult and at times her nerves seemed to show. Her voice is very current and feels like it could be heard on the radio. Ari’s performance earned a steal back from Team Legend. This comes as no surprise as John exclaimed, “How are you deciding? I’m stealing somebody” after the two wrapped their songs up.

Given it was a short episode, there weren’t a ton of other standout moments. The closest was probably Team Legend’s Bryson Battle who showed off his range and ability to do runs on “Ain’t No Way” and earned himself a spot on Team Legend’s Playoffs team. Next week, The Voice returns to a full Knockouts episode as the show reveals the final Playoffs.
