The Voice 27 Blind Audition: Lucia Flores-Wiseman gets a 4-chair turn after powerful performance in Spanish
It’s the penultimate episode of The Voice 27 Blind Auditions. Ahead of Monday’s (Feb 24) show, watch a preview featuring Lucia Flores-Wiseman, performing Ángela Aguilar’s “La Llorona.”
Singing in Spanish, coach Adam Levine turned for the 22 year old from Maple Valley, Washington immediately, followed by Michael Bublé. Next, Kelsea Ballerini felt compelled to hit her button. And then John Legend turned, completing the 4-chair turn. Lucia sings utilized creative phrasing and big dramatic notes in her storytelling. She sang with a catch in her voice and a raspiness often found in Americana music. She could easily stretch into other genres.
Michael is literally bowing to her, I’m-not-worthy style, after she wrapped up the performance. “What is your name, you magic human being!” Kelsea inquired adding, “That made me weirdly emotional!” Kelsea gushed, “I want to be along for your ride. I want to be a sounding board when you need it. You have a god-given voice.”
Adam remarked, “It’s very rare that someone has it all–the emotion, the precision.” He boasted about his longevity as a coach, “This is my 17th season doing the show and I just want to fall madly in love with a singer, and their voice that I felt was singular and…never heard anything like before.”
“It was like Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse were singing in Spanish”
John wanted to know more about Lucia. She namechecked Brandi Carlile, the gifted Americana singer-songwriter as an influence. And indeed, her style evoked the surprising phrasing and vocal prowess of the singer. John mentioned that his wife, Chrissy Teigen, is also from the Pacific Northwest. “I know that,” Lucia replied, excitedly. He invited Lucia to come by his upcoming concert near Chrissy’s home town. He compared Lucia to a few greats: “It was like Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse were singing in Spanish.”
Adam knew John out-pitched him, so he resorted to unabashed flattery, comparing Lucia to Brandi. “It was a voice that you couldn’t ignore because it was so different. And when you were singing, especially when you were doing the things that nobody in the world does, that has the potential to do what Brandi did, which was disrupt and change the way people perceived what good singing is. That versatility, that passion and all of that, you have it all in spades.” Lucia noted, “That was a good pitch!”
What’s a guy to do after two strong pitches? Michael launched into speaking in Spanish. After wooing her in the language, Michael said, “You are so unique, you are so amazing. If I’m lucky enough that you choose me, Awesome. If not I’m going to watch you every week and I’m going to cheer for you.”
Who will Lucia choose as her coach? Tune in to The Voice on NBC, Monday February 24 at 8 pm ET/PT to find out. The episode streams next day on Peacock.
