Tonight, it was the last of the Blind Auditions for the 7th season of The Voice. I was hoping for one last hurrah, a saving-the-best-for-last kind of deal. But, it was not meant to be. The first week of blinds were front loaded with the best talent. The second week much less so. And tonight? Well, you could call it “The Leftovers.”
I don’t know why we had to sit through THREE failed auditions, while at least 6 poor souls who had advanced to the Battle Rounds were montaged last week. Toward the end of the episode, when Team Adam and Team Pharrell were already filled, and there wasn’t much battling going on between the coaches, it all felt rather anti climatic. Even Pharrell seemed a little off his game tonight.
I can’t say I feel excited about any of tonight’s talent. My favorite was the son of the opera singer, Ryan Sill. I thought he had good tone and range. But as for the rest. What was the 4 chair turn for that pitchy and hyperkinetic performance from Beth Spangler all about? Maybe she’ll impress me later. We’ll see. Also, the first singer, Matt Andrews, also had some pitch problems and a very dubious start. I did not understand what Pharrell was going on and on about him. The jazz singer, Bethany Butler, who sang “Girl from Ipanema” could have dialed it back a few notches. I found her performance overwrought.
The GOOD news is that over the 5 blind audition episodes, the coaches found some very good talent, indeed.
But at the moment…we’re talking about tonight. Also, a reminder: There will be NO live blog tomorrow night. I don’t see the point in recapping a two hour clip show. YES. YOU HEARD ME. A TWO HOUR CLIP SHOW. Eep.
I’ll make sure to put up some sort of something tomorrow night–likely a Top 48 overview with photos and links and stuff!
