Siblings Caleb, Joshua, and Bekah Liechty, better known as Girl Named Tom, recently won The Voice as the first ever trio to take the crown. They talked to Ellen Degeneres on Wednesday’s (Jan. 5) afternoon talk show about their humble beginnings in their small town and how they were able to celebrate with their dad who is currently battling cancer.
The Team Kelly Clarkson trio were just hoping to get a chair turn. They didn’t believe a group could possibly win the show. But it just kept going. “It was so fan and crazy,” said Joshua. “[And now] we’re on the Ellen show. Amazing!”

As far as their amazing journey is concerned, their family couldn’t be more proud. Less than 24 hours after their win, the entire family was at their father’s hospital bedside, where he had recently undergone surgery. Bekah joked that when they won, their father woke up the entire hospital celebrating the trio’s win.

Girl Named Tom History-Making The Voice Win is Joyous and Bittersweet
The siblings live in a town in Ohio with less than 500 people and no stoplights. “Their support means everything to us in that community,” said Caleb. “We just started this band and we didn’t know what we were doing. And our first show was in a little winery, la mile and a half, down the road in the cornfields and 300 people showed up. It was our first time ever singing together in a setting like that. And they’ve just been supportive from day one.”
Bekah added, “No matter where you are from, you can follow your dreams.”
All three siblings were headed for careers in medicine, However, “we sang together all our lives.” explained Caleb. Bekah added, “Our dad would come in and when we were sleeping, we all….shared a room. Our dad would come in our mom would harmonize with him. So we’ve been surrounded with music our whole lives.”
“But we didn’t sing together until 3 years ago,” said Bekah, “Because you don’t be a musician for an actual job!”
On their way to becoming a trio, they chose the name Girl Named Tom because Joshua, for some reason, called Bekah “Tom” when she was a baby. “It’s kind of a legend in our family,” he explained.
Currently, Girl Named Tom is working on an album
“We cannot wait to share music with people,” said Caleb. “We won The Voice, we have this platform now that we never could have dreamed of and we’ve been writing during Covid just in a little house in South Bend and we’ve got some great music and we can’t wait to share it. It’ll be out next year. We’ll hopefully tour the country. We got big dreams.”
Afterward, they took the stage to perform a cover of “Carolina in My Mind” by James Taylor.
