Erin Willett debuted her new single, “Out of the Darkness” on NBC’s weight lost competition, The Biggest Loser on Monday (1/25).
The 26 year old was a contestant on The Voice season 2. Shortly after she was eliminated from the show in the semifinals, the singer lost her father to cancer.
Erin gained weight in the aftermath, up to 228 pounds, eventually becoming bulimic, which she kept a secret from her mother and boyfriend until recently. The shame of having to resort to bulimia in hopes of losing weight is what caused her to stop and surrender, and inspired her to join season 17 of The Biggest Loser.
I’m super excited,” Erin told People ahead of the episode airing. “It’s a song that I wrote a couple of years ago and it’s just honest. Like you know what? I am just trying to figure out life and I’m just going to be vulnerable. I’m going to let you know my demons.”
“I feel like in that way, I can hopefully just relate to people and say, ‘We all go through stuff,'” Erin added. “We’re just human at the end of the day, so we can figure it out together.”
Erin lost only one pound of the 5 she needed to lose in order to keep her team safe for the week. It was a disappointing moment. Nevertheless, the single pound dropped her weight to 199. A huge milestone. Erin had promised to sing the new song once her weight fell below 200. Despite being on the cusp of going home, Erin followed through and performed “Out of the Darkness,” leaving fellow contestants and coaches teary eyed.
As it turned out, Erin escaped elimination, to continue competing for at least another week. Check out our FULL recap of this week’s The Biggest Loser HERE for more details.
