Final 4 contestant, Koryn Hawthorne, was handed a song, “Bright Fire” by her The Voice 8 coach Pharrell Williams. It was a tune he had trouble finishing, until he coached Koryn and realized it would be perfect for her.

In the video, Koryn is surrounded by glitter and gleaming disco balls, I suppose to give the song, which has a 70’s R&B flavor, a retro feel. It reminds me of a song The Emotions might record. While I’m still not hearing a strong hook, the sweet, uplifting lyrics frame the spiritual and optimistic narrative Pharrell created for the young singer. She could be singing about a boy she likes, or the Lord above.
