The Voice 19 Finale Guest Stars Revealed! Lauren Daigle, Keith Urban and More

We’re live blogging all the RESULTS here. Beginning at 9 pm (After the 8 pm clip show).

The Top 20 kick off the show with a pre-recorded performance of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” This was taped so long ago, Ryan Gallagher took part before he was disqualified from the show for breaking Covid protocols.

GWEN IS WEARING A HAT. John is in a fancy jacket. The five finalists will sing with their coaches. John mentions that his team member John Holiday only auditioned because his opera tour was cancelled. Gwen is advising Carter Rubin to learn an instrument and write songs. Kelly pledges to help her team member Desz after the season ends.

Now, Nelly fresh off of competing on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars performs his song “Lil Bit” with the Florida Georgia Line guy.

Next, it’s a clip of Gwen playing country girl. She’s dressing the horsies in outfits, and whittling with a nail file. She’s still better than Blake.

A singing show contestant’s best friend, Lewis Capaldi performs “Before You Go.” Dude gets his heart broken a lot

Next 24KGoldn perform their song “Mood.” OK the shaky camera looks like a mistake, even though I know it’s not. A casualty of the pandemic: Artists performing group songs together and paired up with music stars. It looks like we’ll only see the contestants perform with their coaches.

Now, Kelly Clarkson and Desz chat about their song “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan before they take on the huge tune! Brave! But these too can pull it off, for sure. Kelly mentioned that her knee is still injured after a high heel incident on the set of her talk show.

<
p>Next, it’s an ode to John Legend’s rubber hand covered stick. Bonus: He covers The Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand. When he accidently breaks it, John is on his knees screaming no. Hardy har har!

<
p>Former American Idol contestant, Lauren Daigle is here to sing her massive, massive Christian crossover hit, “You Say.” Carter Rubin covered the song earlier in the season. And if not for the pandemic, they would probably be singing together tonight.

Next, it’s a pre-taped performance, “Let Me Take You Dancing” from Jason Derulo. He and a bunch of dancers shimmy around his home swimming pool.

<
p>So far, this finale is pretty boring. It’s like a scaled down awards show, featuring artists promoting their latest songs. The show’s contestants barely make an appearance. I understand that COVID-19 protocols mean the show is kept at the bare minimum. It’s too bad.

Now, John Holiday and John Legend THE JOHNS are getting together to sing Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Legend admits that he’s never strung up lights before. Hm. They both play piano! That performance was very powerful.

<
p>This season’s winner and the runner-up will win trips to Universal Studios theme parks, host Carson Daly announces. Whoop dee doo. No cars? Is it just me, but has Carson not mentioned that the winning artist gets a UMG recording contract? *Maybe it’s not a thing anymore. I mean, it’s not as if the artists wind up recording albums after the show. The prize has turned into a joke.

Next Kelly Clarkson does Crafts. She makes gingerbread houses AND IT’S VERY MESSY. They also taste bad.

<
p>Dan + Shay sing their very first original Christmas song, “Take Me Home For Christmas.” It looks like the performance was shot on the Universal Studios lot.

Now, Blake Shelton and his artists Jim Ranger and Ian Flanigan chat about their respective duets. All three sport ugly sweaters. Well, ugly sport coat in Jim’s case.

First, Blake and Ian sing Willie Nelson’s “Mama Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.” There is even a key change.

<
p>

Now Jim takes the stage with Blake to sing Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens’ “The Streets of Bakersfield.”

Next, a clip about new BESTIES John Legend and Blake Shelton. Hijinks while they sing “Just the Two of Us.” Blake says to John “I love you.” John responds, “I know.”

Julia Michaels, who served as mentor earlier in the season and her boyfriend  JP Saxe sing their duet “If the World Was Ending.”

<
p>Carter Rubin sings Blake’s part in “You Make Me Feel Like Christmas” with his coach Gwen Stefani. He’s very excited. OH LOOK IT’S SANTA’S WORKSHOP. This performance is very fun and nice.

Next, it’s Keith Urban and Pink! They perform a pre-recorded performance of their duet “One Too Many.” I think Keith and his wife Nicole Kidman are in Australia now? An old fashioned projector “projects Pink onto a back wall.

p>RESULTS FINALLY: Dumb questions of course. Blah blah encouragement…thank you. The artist in fifth place is…John Holiday. The artist in 4th place is…Desz. The artist in THIRD place is…Ian Flanigan! The Top 2 are Carter Rubin and Jim Ranger!

TIME TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNER – And the WINNER OF The Voice season 19 is…Carter Rubin!!!! Jim Ranger is the runner-up. So I was wrong about the winner. I’m glad! After five seasons, Gwen Stefani notches her FIRST The Voice win! Congratulations to both. She’s cracking me up how she’s losing her mind right now.

At 15, Carter is the youngest male to ever win The Voice.

*Checked the fine print at the end of the show. The winner gets a cash prize and a recording contract with UMG. Still. The cash is cool. But the recording contract is a joke. The last winner to release music on UMG post show was Season 13’s Chloe Kohanski. She released an EP that the label didn’t bother to promote. UMG dropped her pretty fast after that.
