The Voice: Teen Artist, Ryley Tate Wilson Stuns the Coaches

Ryley Tate Wilson The Voice season 23 Blind Audition

The Voice 23 Teen Artist, Ryley Tate Wilson Stuns the Coaches with his Vocal Maturity

The Voice season 23 artist Ryley Tate Wilson is only 15 years old, but his maturity as a vocalist is formidable.

The Montgomery, Alabama native performed Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own,” and eventually got all four coaches–Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, Chance the Rapper and Blake Shelton–to hit their buttons. Kelly turned first, followed by Niall. It took Ryley shifting into his belting voice to move Blake to turn. Finally Chance hit his button at the last minute. “You’re 15 and sounding like that!” said a shocked Kelly afterward.

“That was the best audition we’ve seen here by a long shot”

Niall added, “Riley, my head nearly exploded. That was the best audition we’ve seen here by a long shot.” He can relate to Ryley. “I remember what I was like at 15 auditioning for a show like this. I was shaking like a leaf,” Niall said, recalling his audition for X Factor UK a decade ago. Niall didn’t hear any nerves at all. Riley, however, admitted that he was indeed, nervous.

“It’s so nice to hear a 15 year old have that confidence in their own ability,” said Niall, who thinks Riley is the kind of artist who wouldn’t sing a song the same way twice. “That is an amazing way to keep people on their toes,” Niall added. Ryley has released one song, he revealed, that’s “more like acoustic pop.” Niall called the young singer a storyteller.

“Your voice is insane!”

“I don’t know if you noticed, Ryley,” said Kelly, “But I pushed light years before the others.” She added, “I heard your tone and I was like ‘It’s incredible’. Your voice is insane!” Kelly loves working with young people. “Actually, I win a lot with young talent. And I think it’s because I started as a young talent.” Even though Niall also started on a singing competition at a young age, Kelly believes she can be the best coach for Ryley. “Your runs were crazy good!” she said, after Ryley noted a few of his R&B influences. “They weren’t planned they were felt. If you’re feeling that at 15. WOW!”

“You’re insanely talented, dude” said Chance. “What really caught me was the ending where you kind of just improvised with the runs and really just felt the song out.” Stressing his production abilities, Chance added, “I would love to work with you…and finding the songs you can play with. There’s certain arrangement that will work perfect for what you have.”

“I will quit coaching after this season!”

Blake admitted that he “doesn’t have much of a shot here” adding that he’s “probably the fourth choice that you have on this panel.” Regardless, he stressed, “I’ve been coaching here for 23 seasons, and I’ve won with all kinds of artists.” Then he joked, “You pick me as your coach, and I will quit coaching after this season.” Because, Blake is leaving The Voice after the current cycle. “I will walk away, I will be satisfied!”

At the end, the coaches devolved into a shouting match, attempting to woo Ryley. Who will he choose as his coach? Tune into The Voice on NBC, Monday March 13 to find out!
