The Voice UK is back for another season, premiering on January 5. Saturday’s episode airs from 3 PM EST/8 PM GMT to 4:35 PM EST/9:35 GMT. But make sure to check the listings every week, as times could vary!
Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Jennifer Hudson and will.i.am are set to return to the coaches panel, along with host Emma Willis.
A new season means a new twist of course. For the first time, vocal trios were able to audition for spots on The Voice UK teams, alongside duos and solos.
“We know there are many talented trios out there across the UK and we want to offer them the chance to show off their vocal harmonies on The Voice UK stage,” said ITV Creative Director Katie Rawcliffe.
“It makes the Blinds that much more fun and exciting and interesting,” Jennifer said of the twist. “When you hear one voice you think ‘hmm…I wonder if they’re older or younger, I wonder if it’s a male or a female’ kind of thing but now that we have trios it’s like ‘is there one voice, two or three?! Who is singing what?’
“Trios have been good, said Olly, revealing that each of the coaches chose a trio for their respective teams. “I think all four of us have got a trio each which was great in the end. I don’t think that was intentional, it just happened. I think actually we’ve all picked a trio that the public would have put us with. He added. “In a trio you’ve got to really try and find your moments to shine and be in harmony so it’s good…it’s good for the competition.”
“Bringing in the trio element will present a new sound that could shake everything up,” said Sir Tom. “We’ll have to see of course, but whether it’s a solo singer, a duo or a trio, I’m hoping to find someone with that special spark.”
Tom is also the reigning The Voice UK winner. And he said of last year’s champ Ruti Olajugbagbe: “I’m so proud and excited about my winner, Ruti, who is in the studio doing some very impressive work, she’s developing into a true artist and I can’t wait for you all to hear her!”
“Last year I managed to get seduced and picked some entertaining performers,” said Olly regarding a couple of questionable decisions he made last season as a newbie. “The other coaches might think they have worked me out but I’m coming back with a bang, just you wait!”
Will said: “The UK always surprises me with some of the freshest artists and this keeps me coming back for more. By adding trios, we’re raising the bar, so bring it on UK!”
