There are folks who call The Voice 3 winner, Cassadee Pope, a wannabe country star. After all, the singer cut her teeth as an alt-rock performer in the band Hey Mondays. But, the “Wasting All These Tears” singer is here to set the record straight.
Country music is her roots, YO. She tells the Tennessean in a recent interview ahead of her debut at the Grand Ole Opry tomorrow night (July 17)
“People don’t realize that country music is my background and that’s what I sang as a kid,” she said in an interview with The Tennessean last week. “I went through my rock phase, but now I’m back in a place where I feel the roots coming back from country music. I’m just infusing all of them into one. The Opry has always been something I wanted to do and as a kid I covered all the artists that sang on the Opry stage.”
The fact that she couldn’t get traction in the pop world and found success on The Voice stage with country covershad nothing to do with her post-Voice switch to country? Okee doke. POKIE.
ETA: As Windmills mentioned in comments, right off of her Voice win, Cassadee talked about working country elements into a pop rock sound. So.
