Along with a brand new song, The Voice season 13 winner Chloe Kohanski has a brand new name. With the release of her new Republic Records single, “To Be Young,” the pop singer has changed her name to Chloe MK.
The song is off of her upcoming EP, Fantasy, which Chloe describes as a genre called “internet pop.”
“I sort of felt like being young was normally written about as being very fun and light-hearted,” she told NYLON where the song premiered. “And I think that’s true, but I don’t feel like there’s a lot of songs about how hard it is when you don’t really know who you are or what you want, and you feel like you have to apologize for simply just existing.”
“Right now the internet is a melting pot of sounds and influences… there are absolutely no rules,” she said. Nylon notes that the theme runs throughout Fantasy. “I think my songs are the exact same way. There’s sadness, there’s emotion, there’s honesty, but there’s also these really bright, euphoric-pop sounds. Like fantasy vs. reality.”
“I’m excited to hear what people think of that sound with my voice,” Chloe told the magazine.
The Team Blake Shelton member won her title in the fall of 2017 with emotional covers of beloved 70’s and 80’s tunes like “The Chain,” “Landslide,” “Time after Time” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Anybody that follows Chloe on social media knows she has had her ups and down as she recorded new music. In February she wrote on social media: “trying to stay positive and focus on all of the wonderful things I have been given so far in life but tbh I feel like i’m losing friends and losing sight of what I love and everything just feels so heavy rn”

Also, she has struggled to deal with a typically opinionated fan base: “it’s so funny 2 me when ppl say “everyone is so sensitive it’s like you can’t say anything anymore!!!!!” but like why don’t you just stop saying offensive things about ppl? seriously. it’s not that hard. just pls stop talking if u can’t be nice! pls”

But with the release of her new music, Chloe is feeling pretty positive these days. “chloe mk represents a fresh start,” the singer wrote on twitter. “it’s me but with a lil twist!!! this is the artist i’ve always wanted to be. the music i’ve always wanted to make. never been this excited about anything b4.”
