Tacoma singer Vicci Martinez is ready for new fame on TV hit ‘Orange Is The New Black’ – Vicci Martinez has lived many of entertainment’s oldest stories: child prodigy, sudden fame, the inevitable downfall. Now she has a new one: the comeback. On July 27, the Tacoma native joins the cast of the hit Netflix series, “Orange Is The New Black.” The dramedy follows an ensemble cast in a women’s prison. Martinez plays the character, Daddy, in a story arc that spans most of the season. She came in third on the first season of NBC competitive singing show “The Voice” in 2011, only to see her career dwindle to the brink of extinction by the summer of 2017. “In my mind,” Martinez said Tuesday, “it had already collapsed.” Further blurring the lines between reality and non-reality, Martinez is in a relationship with an actor on the show, Emily Tarver, who plays correctional officer McCullough. – Read more at The News Tribune

The rocker’s first new album in five years with his eponymous band Daughtry, “Cage to Rattle” (out Friday), features a song co-written by his wife, Deanna, titled “As You Are.” “She writes down poetry, and I remember one time she presented me with some lyrics, and was like, ‘If you ever want to use these for anything, or whatever,’” he said. “And I was kind of dismissive about it, and looking back, I’m like, ‘Oh man, that was probably the wrong move.’” – Read more at USAToday
