American Idol falls more this week against the Olympics. To be expected right? But back in 2006 the roles were reversed as Idol season 5, in its DEATH STAR heyday, literally CRUSHED the Winter Olympics taking place in Turin that year.
Check out these numbers from THR. On February 23, the Top 12 girls averaged 31.4 million viewers and a 13.4 rating/32 share in the adults 18-49 demographic. The Winter Olympics averaged only 15.5 million viewers and a 4.5/11 in the demo.

On FOX, American Idol earned a 2.9, down two tenths from last Thursday’s 3.1 adults 18-49 rating. On NBC, day 8 coverage of the Winter Olympics earned a 5.9 adults 18-49 rating, down from the comparable night of Winter Olympics in 2010, which earned a 7.1 adults 18-49 rating.
