I wish I could say I didn’t see this coming. But folks familiar with Tyra Banks work hosting America’s Got Talent knew she struggled in a live show environment. Apparently, she made mistakes on Tuesday’s (Sept 22) episode, and fans are dragging her. So now, the fashion icon is responding in a TikTok video.
“Tonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing with the Stars … and yeah, it wasn’t perfect,” she said. “Yeah, I had a lot of fun but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but I kept, kept going.”

Tyra then compared her experience to that of DWTS contestant Skai Jackson, who slipped during her samba with pro partner Alan Bersten.
“She got back up and she kept going, and because of that she’s here for another week,” Tyra said. “So the message is: I messed up this week, Skai messed up this week, but we’re gonna keep on going and going.”
“Forgive yourself when you mess up and keep going,” Tyra ended the clip.

Hosting a live show is like herding cats
Experienced broadcasters like American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest, The Voice’s Carson Daly, and the two hosts Tyra replaced, Nick Cannon (AGT) and Tom Bergeron (DWTS), make hosting a live show seem super easy.
A host has to be able to think on his or her’s feet, keep cool when things go sideways, act as traffic cop in the middle of a circus. Tyra displayed talent on heavily scripted and taped-ahead fare such as Top Model and her daytime talk show. However, managing a live show is not her thing. Live hosting requires a certain type of quick thinking she does not possess. That’s why it’s a little shocking that ABC believed replacing two pros–Tom Bergeron and the excellent Erin Andrews– with Tyra would be a good idea.
Tyra stumbling, followed by fan backlash? Inevitable.
Dancing with the Stars ratings for the season’s first two shows are decent. But we’ll see if the numbers hold up.
