Watch Fantasia sing the National Anthem before the College Football Playoff Championship game
Fantasia Barrino Taylor took the field at Houston’s NRG Stadium on Monday (Jan 8) to perform the National Anthem ahead of the championship game between No. 1 University of Michigan and No. 2 University of Washington.
The Michigan Wolverines came out the winners with a final score of 34-13, but before that, the American Idol season 3 winner belted the national anthem for a crowd of enthusiastic football fans. A fireworks display capped off the performance.
Fantasia nominated for a Golden Globe for her The Color Purple role
The American Idol season 3 winner is the star of The Color Purple, the movie adaption of the Broadway musical. Most recently, she attended the Golden Globe Awards. The singer was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture–Musical or Comedy. However, she lost out to Emma Stone who won for her role in Poor Things.

Fantasia had previously worked on Broadway as the lead in the The Color Purple between April 10, 2007 and January 6, 2008.
“Thank you for having me to sing the #NationalAnthem at the @cfbplayoff #NationalChampionship!” Fantasia wrote on instagram alongside photos of herself on the field, dressed in purple pants and a feathery purple jacket.
Speaking of outfits, at the Golden Globes, Dolce and Gabbana outfitted the singer in a custom gown consisting of a black top and full lavender skirt.
As far as her experience starring in The Color Purple, and all the accolades surrounding the singer’s star turn, Fantasia’s mentor and Color Purple executive producer Oprah Winfrey told her, “…just enjoy the moment. There’s a lot of things that can come and cloud the moment, so you have to stay focused. And that’s what I love about her, and that’s what I’m gonna always do,” she said.
