On last night’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve hosted by Ryan Seacrest, an American Idol reunion took place…sort of!
Jennifer Lopez took the stage in Times Square right before the ball dropped ushering in 2021 to sing her new single “In The Morning.” Then, the World of Dance judge tackled the big one…Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” rock scream and all!
Jennifer sat on the American Idol judges panel with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler for Seasons 10 and 11 (2011 and 2012). And of course, Ryan hosted American Idol back then, and continues to do so.
But on a serious note, Jennifer got a little choked up speaking of the lives lost in 2020 to COVID-19. Indeed, Time Square looked very different last night without the usual crowds, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Balloons, other than people in front of the stage, with pods of essential workers as the only audience.
“This year teaches us… if it taught us anything, it taught us to be grateful for what we do have and to cherish every moment,” she continued. “We lost too many — too many — to take one moment for granted. So, tonight we’re going to live, we’re going to love, and we’re going to dance again. And we’re going to keep on dreaming. Twenty years ago, I sang this song. We never needed it more than tonight.” Jennifer is referring to her 1999 hit “Waiting for Tonight.”

Jennifer asked Steven Tyler to Sing Dream On with her!
After the ball dropped, Jennifer, her children, and her fiancé Alex Rodriguez joined Ryan to chat about her performance. Ryan noted that he and Jennifer used to work on Idol together. Jennifer remarked on how much her kids have grown since they worked together.
And did she hint that she wanted the “Dream On” performance to be a duet, but Steven couldn’t do it? “I wanted him to come, but he couldn’t do it,” Jennifer says. WOULDN’T THAT HAVE BEEN SOMETHING!!!
We're all dreaming of a better 2021! Happy New Year, @JLo! ? #RockinEve pic.twitter.com/bcx4JZGVTK
