Congratulations to Layla Spring! She won a golden ticket to the American Idol Hollywood Round, which takes place in December. The country singer competed for the coveted spot alongside fellow alums Logan Johnson and Shawn Robinson. The three singers taped performances at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Hollywood for a featured spot on Sunday night’s (Nov 25) American Music Awards. Afterward, fans voted for their favorite singer at Americanidol.com/vote.

After the overnight vote, results were revealed during the Dancing With the Stars season 28 grand finale which aired on Monday (Dec 26). Judge Lionel Richie played Ryan Seacrest, handing over the ticket to a super-excited Layla.
Watch the big moment below.
Layla’s winning performance featured a cover of season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood’s hit “Blown Away.” The singer, who competed on ABC’s season 1 in 2018, was the teen southern country singer with the adorable 7 year old sister who tagged along to her judges audition. Lil sis got a golden ticket from the judges. But of course, she has to wait until she turns 15. Layla advanced all the way to the Top 24, but the judges/producers cut her after performing “A Broken Wing” in addition to “Stuck Like Glue” with Sugarland.
Now the young singer has a second chance! But even if producers cut her in Hollywood, the stunt served its purpose. For ABC, the mini competition engaged fans ahead of the new season, and served as a way to promote American Idol across two high profile events–The American Music Awards and Dancing with the Stars finale. Meanwhile, Layla has another opportunity to compete on the show.
American Idol season 18 aka ABC season 3 premieres on Sunday February 16 at 8 pm ET/PT. The entire crew is back: Ryan Seacrest hosts, Bobby Bones mentors and Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan sit on the judges panel.
