UPDATE: “Say Something” has reached #1 on iTunes overall chart. Congrats Alex & Sierra.
Simon Cowell must be dancing a jig. Because finally FINALLY something on this sorry season of X Factor USA resonates in a positive way.
His groups act, the boyfriend and girlfriend duo, Alex & Sierra performed a cover of “Say Something” by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. The original has been in the iTunes top 10 ever since it debuted on The Voice earlier this fall. It received a subsequent bump from an American Music Awards performance.
America loves this song so much that when Alex & Sierra stunned fans with a beautiful rendition of the song last night, it IMMEDIATELY began climbing iTunes. X Factor songs haven’t made a significant impact on the charts until this week.
As I write this at 10 am on December 5, The X Factor version of “Say Something” sits at #2 on iTunes, ahead of the original which is charting right behind it at #3. Pretty sure Christina and the band ain’t mad, as they received yet another sales boost from the duo’s credible rendition.
Alex & Sierra’s other performance, a cover of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” sits at #19. Two earlier performances made the Top 100: “Best Song Ever” at #58 and “I Knew You Were Trouble” at #98.
Needless to say, the young singers are the stars of a very lackluster season.
