Judge Louis Walsh said the X Factor UK spoilers were wrong? They weren’t. Check out who made the top 12 after the jump.
I can’t say I’m surprised. The boys, mentored by Dannii Minogue were a very good group, and of the guys I heard, I could see anyone of them making the Top 12. Pretty boy Aiden Grimshaw was a shoe-in. I am mesmerized by Matt Cardle who managed to fully inhabit Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy” and make it work. Nicolo Fiesta impressed me more than he did at Boot Camp, but he still seems only skin deep to me.
Cheryl Cole’s group of girls were talented too, but I’m afraid both Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd will flame out pretty quick under stress. Rebecca Ferguson is the girl to watch. Her performances have become stronger each go-around. There’s a lot of controversy around the elimination of Gamu Nhengu, who was a favorite (and also at the center of the auto-tune controversy). Cher and Katie choked at the houses. Cher was sick, but she wasn’t handling it well. Gamu (or Treyc Cohen) should have gone through, based soley on her performance in Ascot. But, hey, they’re casting a TV show. Gotta have some controversy, right?
The Over-28s were a joke. Poor Louis Walsh! Steven Hunter and Wagner Carillho were like the sort of American Idol joke contestant that doesn’t make it past the judges. Mary Bryne is Susan Boyle part 2. Storm Lee has a decent enough voice, but he’s so full of himself. The Overs will probably be eliminated pretty quickly. Only John Adeleye has talent to be taken seriously. I don’t think he’ll best the talented crop of boys and girls this year. The winner is going to come out of either Dannii or Cheryl’s group.
Speaking of Groups? Zzzzzz. Simon Cowell put through the two super-groups of contestants he put together at Boot Camp. The girls, Belle Amie, and the boys, 1 Direction sing like they just met a minute ago. Oh yeah. They did. FYD rounds out Simon’s picks, and I already forget what they sound like.
If one of your favorites didn’t make it, don’t worry. Reports claim that all 20 remaining contestants will be at the first live show next Saturday. Each mentor will pick one wild card. Viewers will vote, and the winner will become the 13th contestant.
Join me next Saturday for the first live X Factor UK show. I’ll be hunting down a live stream and posting it here, so we can all watch it together…
