who??? hmmm i should start googling n youtubing on them then’ ¦

SarahP, yes I would recommend it. Their style is more bluegrass, though, so be prepared. However, they know how to present a song even better than Kris did on AI. This does not negate Kris’s artistry though, imo.

ETA: lol, looks like hwc was on top of it!

hey Mary102′ ¦.Adam says in RS that Black or White was one of his favorite performances. He felt that the singing was great’ ¦I’m not sure where you got the pitchy stuff’ ¦he sounded amazing

He said in his idoltry interview that it was a bit shouty.

    BeckyMD
I think it is in his TVGuide interview that he commented on Bow. In his Idoltry interview, he said he might want to do Rof later in the show when people were more ready for non-traditional idol performance. (I may know too well about Adam’s interviews. go facing the wall and meditate)

Correct. It was in Part I of the TV Guide interview with Matt Mitovitch. In response to the question (at the 2:00 mark) “What was your least favourite performance of your run?”, Adam said (and I quote) “The choice of doing BorW was really really great…{snip}… but vocally, from like, a technical standpoint, it was kind of a mess. It was pitchy, it was a little shouty [laughs].”

Ummm yeah. I think I need to meditate a little bit as well. …Just put the Glambert down and back away slowly… LOL

  • hwc:

He also saw what Kris had to offer on the show and mentioned that his album may very well be the first AI album he ever buys.

My daughter bought Kelly’s albums, my wife bought Fantasia’s albums, and I bought Taylors albums. Nothing from the last two seasons. I won’t buy anything from Season 8 except Adam’s album, which I don’t really expect to be my cup of tea — although I have turned into a pretty big fan of folk/techno fusion (Beth Orton) and I’m enjoying Goldfrapp and Thievery Corporation on Adam’s recommendation.

Well, not seeing Kris’s musicality and artistry is where YMMV, hwc.

Yeah, I don’t see it at all, but that’s just personal taste. I thought that the Castro kid showed much more creativity and style in a similar vein last year, but was really one-dimensional.

Well, I’d say if you had that quote, and the timing, perfectly memorized, without needing to re-watch, then, yeah, you may have a problem :wink_wp:

But like I’m one to talk – giddy last night after just hearing Adam perform again on an AI rerun, then staying up till midnight to catch up on Adam related interviews I missed over the weekend!

  • cookcricket:

Folk/techno fusion? Now that sounds interesting….

  • Q3:

At the end of the day, I believe the result is the right one for many reasons, not the least of which is that imo we’d NEVER have seen a RS cover and story like the one that we did if Adam had won. NEVER in a million years. Nor would TPTB be willing to work to brand him the way that they are ‘” The Wild Idol, etc.

hwc I think all of that was in place long before the final voting. The better argument, I think, is that the final vote was irrelevant to Season 8 of American Idol, its storylines, and the career trajectories of the participants.

hwc, I agree with you on this one. Everything that is happening for Adam would be playing out the same, win or loose EXCEPT the media frenzy would have been even greater if he had won. And, if he had won, the political press would be more focused on him. It took me a few days after the loss to realize that it was much better for Adam to loose.

I still belive that Adam did not plan on winning — either he didn’t want to win (so it would be easier to position himself without the AI stigma) or he didn’t think he could win and be true to himself artistically and personally.

Adam was very specific about his goal being to get to the Final in a pre-Top 4 interview. Adam clearly stated his reasons for being on Idol long before the final — to get exposure, build a fanbase and get a major recording contact. And he achieve all this.

  • anovich:

Second, for those who think that Adam being in interviews with him helps bring out Kris’s personality – have you seen his interviews with Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon, and his entrance on Ellen? Adam was not present at any of those but you could definitely see Kris’s personality. So I guess I’m agreeing with the people who think that Kris should be doing interviews on his own and doesn’t need Adam – just because he has more of a “quiet” personality doesn’t mean he’s not entertaining on his own.

And third, the season is over – I’m just lookng forward to the fall when both of their albums (and Allison’s) are out. I’m not going to tell anyone that they hae to buy soeone’s album because we all have our own tastes in music, but I do think that all 3 of them have the potential to do well and that there is a place for all of them in the market.

edit: don’t call out other posters

  • hwc:

Folk/techno fusion? Now that sounds interesting’ ¦.

Quite. Beth Orton started out with an album released on in Japan recorded with William Orbit – the techno producer who went on to do Madonna’s techno stuff. Orton then hooked up with Ryan Adams and drifted a bit more acoustic folk, but still with techno production that has been the thing in Europe for a while.

The most stunning thing that Orton has done is a duet with Ryan Adams of the Rolling Stones’ Brown Sugar that they released on a free magazine compilation of Stone’s covers. Wow. Talk about interpreting a song. The lyrics are so ugly and hateful, you’ll never be able listen to the Stones version again:

The Ryan Adams duet with Marianne Faithful, English Girls Approximately, was written about Orton.

Well, not seeing Kris’s musicality and artistry is where YMMV,

In my case, I still am open-minded about Kris. His pre-idol independent recordings are not too impressive, but I really liked a few of his AI performances.

IMO he won idol because he had musical talent, and is very attractive and even more likeable. This same combination will help he be commercially successful, but I won’t buy his music because I think he’s nice. It will need to be really good and original.

If Kris is wildly successful, I will be very pleased and not that surprised — because he has consistently exceeded my expectations.

  • cookcricket:

Actually I think Kris’s pre-idol stuff is pretty good considering it was a self-done album with him doing the music and that his song writing was only beginning. Masterclass Lady had some very good things to say about some of the songs on his album and seem impressed with his musical ability.

For me, I don’t see buying Adam’s entire album, but if he has some ballads I will probably download some singles. However, I am planning to buy Kris’s based on what he did on the show.

I hope both will do well. :)

  • Q3:

I hope both will do well. :)

    I agree!

By the way, following last night’s show, Adam’s Season 8 album went back onto the iTunes Top 100 Album chart. I think it peaked at #74, now at #89.

  • LVanna:

IMO he won idol because he had musical talent, and is very attractive and even more likeable.

I think you should win Idol because of “musical talent” but the attractiveness and likeability is just frosting on the cake, so to speak, not a requirement of the prize. Adam has all of these qualities but his talent is superior to everything else. I have tried but cannot connect to Kris so I guess I will just have to pass on him. I do hope he releases an awesome album and that I may change my mind. Being an Adam fan should have nothing to do with this, but I guess it does.

After following Adam this past half year, I am just not interested in any of the other Idols, winner included. Everyone else bores me. JMO I’m sure but I wish all of them the best in their careers, even Danny who totally turns me off, lol.

  • TwigLA:

Watching MJ week all over again, I’m reminded why I liked Kris Allen so much. He took a song that I really didn’t care for when done by the original artist and made it enjoyable. It’s a shame that he had done Man in the Mirror the week prior. He was all sorts of awesome with that. I wish they would have included that in this tribute show.

I also agree with others. The top 13 should each have had a small segment talking about how MJ influenced them, their reason for the song they sang, etc. Leave out the judges comments and other voting related stuff.
