Idol Producers Tell Paula Abdul to STFU

According to TMZ,

Paula Abdul was told in no uncertain terms before her “Letterman” appearance last night to put a lid on her feud with “A.I.” producers.

Our sources say Paula is “extremely pissed” at “A.I.” producers for putting Paula Goodspeed on the show, despite the fact Goodspeed had been harassing Abdul for years — mad enough to make a stink on Dave’s show.

But before tape rolled, we’re told “A.I.” suits got in touch with Abdul and demanded that she not stoke the coals. “A.I.” made it clear — they were paying Paula’s bills so she needed to play by their rules.

Watch the clip from Letterman It’s pretty obvious that the previously chatty Paula had put a lid on it…

Ultimately, Paula played ball, though somewhat insincerely. But it may have paid off. We’ve learned “A.I.” has already opened negotiations with Abdul for Season 9 — the talks have gone on for more than a month. That goes against the prevailing view that the fourth judge who debuts in the upcoming Season 8 will replace her.

Could Paula’s “feud” with the producers be part of some wacky strategy Paula dreamed up to negotiate more money for her next contract? I mean, if they treated her that horribly how could she even consider any sort of re-negotiation…

Update:Â   Radar is reporting that Paula is about to re-sign for double the salary….

Paula Abdul may soon have 10 million good reasons to re-sign with Fox for a ninth season of American Idol next year.

Sources close to the ongoing negotiations between the emotional judge and the network tell RADAR exclusively that Paula’s looking to double her current $5 million -$7 million a year agreement…and it looks like she’ll get it.

“Realistically, Paula knows she couldn’t get anywhere near the $30 million a year that Simon (Cowell) makes,” said our source.

“But she thinks she’s worth almost twice what she’s making now and Fox appears to agree.

“They definitely want her back.”

Sounds like Paula tactic has been “pay me more money AI or I will sue your ass over the Goodspeed incident and air out ALL your dirty laundry bitches!”

  • ozarka:

Paula was tight-lipped during the Martha Stewart Show today too. Martha made a few feeble attempts at getting some juice from her as they were making cookies, but Paula pretty much brushed them aside in a rather incoherent and incomprehensible manner.

  • Paula is about to re-sign for double the salaryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Guess that goofy Paula ain’t so goofy after all….

Now, negotiations occurred because…maybe there was some truth to her blabbering.

They may have shut Paula up, but now I’m double-curious.

  • dogncatmom:

But….correct me if I’m wrong, wasn’t Paula Goodspeed on in Season 5? And Paula is just NOW getting all outraged??? It all rather stinks to me.

  • leome:

LOL So, it was all about getting more money?
Eh, and people think she’s nuts.

  • snuffles:

To be fair to Abdul – Goodspeed only just recently killed herself in front of Abdul’s house. So yeah, that could be why she’s outraged NOW.

  • Niall:

Paula probably feels like she played nice at the time of the Goodspeed incident but now they’ve brought on Kara and her contract is up after this season. Given that Goodspeed increased her stalking and then killed herself after AI5, I think this is just a perfect storm of issues that have collided.

  • heart2:

I think she is outraged for the fact the poor girl just offed herself in front of Paul A. house…. ya. .. I’d be a little outraged.

  • Hazehel:

As I thought, it’s just a negotiation ploy. I doubt that she was in anyway upset by the Goodspeed audition, the audition video doesn’t show it. She knew the game, and she played the game. Goodspeed’s death is just a convenient excuse to up the ante. Cynical? Yeah.

Pity, I would have liked to see her sue.

  • However Paula felt about Paula Goodspeed’s auditions and ultimate suicide, it truly disgusts me that she would publically use that as leverage in her salary negotiations. Her protestations about her “heart going out to the family” which she used on every appearance in the past week or so ring very hollow. Well, I’m so glad she will get the money she thinks she deserves. Maybe this season she could try to actually do her job.

Paula’s no idiot, and she never has been.

Her emotions — sympathy, sadness, outrage — still remain genuine, in my view, even if the timing provided an opportunity to seek a fair salary for herself. A $5 million versus $30 million disparity is too broad, I don’t care if he is Simon and she is Paula. They both bring different skill sets and experience to the table. As a performer — and yes, artist, in my view — she saw things the other two didn’t. Of course, she stumbles, bumbles, and spaces a lot too — but that goes with the territory. :-)

    Sorry for the ramble….

Hey, Paula was one of the victims in this. Let someone stalk you for YEARS, then kill themselves in front of your home, after an earlier attempt, I’d be pissed too. It’s not like Abdul was stalking Goodspeed. Paula got the retraining orders, she did exactly what she was supposed to do legally and it still had a bad end. It just came to a head, she didn’t manufacture that part of it that is for sure. Lay some of the blame on Ms. Goodspeed’s lap and that of her family who knew she was ill and still don’t seem to understand the totality of her illness even after her suicide. Paula might be all things evil and corrupt, but she’s not the bad guy by a longshot. Not this time.

I say that you use everything you have to do so secure your future. They were playing hardball with her, she played it back and won. Sillyass Paula FTMFW!

  • ShariG:

Well to be honest I don’t think TMZ is the most reputable of sources. They hound people, kind of paparazzi gone wild. I don’t have a problem with Paula. She sure supported David Cook this past season and was right on target about him from the audition right through to the win. I have to love her for that. Ditzy or not, she was right about DC.
